coueskiller Report post Posted April 18, 2006 Well it looks like drawing a Dec. coues tag in central AZ. is going to be very tough for us from here on out. Our wonderfull Game & Fish Dept. is proposing the following.... 6A(50tags),6b/8(50tags),21(50tags),22(50tags) and 23(50tags) now thats what I would call VERY LITTLE hunter oppertunity, it will now take years to draw one of these tags!!!! Looks like hunting coues deer in the rut in central AZ is now going to be as hard as hunting carp north of the big ditch, it will be a sad day when the Dept. approves these recomendations!!! Oh well I guess we could all draw one of the Oct. tags in the units mentioned above because there will be a toatl of 1745 permits issued for the Oct. hunts in units 6a,6b,8,21,22 & 23....................... What the heck are they thinking $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Geoff
bullwidgeon Report post Posted April 18, 2006 They have a new way of thinking at the G&F, all these extra tags and jacked up extra hunts in units with noticiably smaller herds than down South on top of the dryest winter ever. The deer herd should be looking real good in '07..................NOT ! Bret M.
Noel Arnold Report post Posted April 18, 2006 Yeah I am starting to think the Department might be related to the Oil company's.(It is all about money) Noel
DesertBull Report post Posted April 18, 2006 Yeah I am starting to think the Department might be related to the Oil company's.(It is all about money) Noel <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah, but the oil companies are in business to make money, the G&F sole purpose is to manage wildlife. az4life Report post Posted April 18, 2006 Heck, the AGFD won't ever show a profit. They will Always manage to spend more than they have. that way they can keep asking for more. They learnt that from politicians.
TAM Report post Posted April 19, 2006 WOW!!! I just got done looking at the proposed regs on the AZ G&F website and I can't believe they're still pushing the issue! So far the vast majority of some 6,500 people that have taken the deer survey are overwhelmingly against the proposal and yet the G&F keeps moving it forward. Not only the deer but as Brett mentioned now they've screwed up the bear hunts too. What's the reasoning behind all these changes? It surely cant be science! They say they want to increase hunter opportunity but the hunters are saying they don't want more opportunity they want to stick with quality. I don't see how this could be anything but a money issue??? More hunter opportunity = more tags sold = more $$$. You'd think the results of the survey would be enough to get these changes voted down... what are these guys thinking?
coues7 Report post Posted April 19, 2006 TAM, I agree with you 100%.....why won't the AZGFD listen??? I think that they are going to do what they want, when they want, and for whatever reason they see fit NO MATTER what we say. VERY VERY UNFORTUNATED. It's just saddening. I have said this a dozen times now.....I can tell you from 1st hand experience....units with lots of tags (SUPPOSED OPPORTUNITY /QUANTITIY) SUCK!!!!! Everyone is on top of everyone and it is a miserable experience. AZ HUNTER WANT QUALITY NOT QUANITITY. WHY WHY WHY WON'T THE AZGFD LISTEN????

Rembrant Report post Posted April 19, 2006 We in Arizona have been blessed, no, down right spoiled with quality hunts, like rut hunts for deer, elk, antelope, turkeys etc. and we have complained ever since the beginning of time that we can't get drawn. If we get drawn, we have a wonderful hunting experience, but dang that Game and Fish Dept., WE CAN'T GET DRAWN!! We talk about sittin out two years after getting an elk tag - we did that. We talk about bonus points for this and bonus points for that. And we talk about those dang out-of-staters gettin our tags. And just did something about that. Now the Dept is offering us tags, and so we switch to camplaining about quality. Yep, sure does suck to knock those December whitetail hunts down to 50 tags! Yep, sure gets crowded on an early hunt - if your disabled and can't walk. Or if your a whimp that needs to be surgically separated from your quad. And yep, it sucks that a survey won't change the Dept's plan. And yep, looks like they're gonna do what they're gonna do. Dang that Game and Fish Dept!!!! But you know what? I don't need a Dec tag to kill a whitetail. Sure I'd prefer one, but I can't get drawn for one 'cept for a tag every three to five years. I would love to get a November tag for my favorite unit on a regular basis. I can work with that. I am still an able bodied individual, I'll get away from the crowd. In fact, one of my older brothers has limitations involving his legs and he got away from the crown on an early hunt last year and steered his wife and two sons into three good bucks on an early hunt. All the quad people were amazed that somebody killed deer. Everyone of them asked. "Hey where'd you get them deer?" I hope that all you guys that are getting ulcers about the new proposals remember how much you hate early whitetail tags - and don't put in for them. Mike <{POST_SNAPBACK}> [/quote I have never in my life put in for a late hunt or a Nov. hunt....All I put in for is early whitetail hunts, I am fine with the 4 day hunts. But now I dont think that the early hunts are going to have 100% draw success any more.
DesertBull Report post Posted April 19, 2006 No one is asking the "danged Game and Fish" to do away with the early hunts. We would just like them to leave a few of the units as December only. It has worked for many years. Why does every unit have to managed the same? A little variety never hurt.
COOZESLAYER1 Report post Posted April 19, 2006 I just saw the new changes in my neat packet Game and Fish sent . It really blows what they did to my unit 24a. Game and Fish took away 300 tags and left 50 and added 550 to November along with 175 for the muledeer hunt. Now when Game and Fish gets somebody killed and that hunters family sue's are they going to stop hunting for good?Whats next? I have been hunting coues for 21 years I have seen 24a go from 800 tags to 50 tags. I start to ask myself Will my three kids ever get to hunt ? heck NO heck NO AND heck NO. That really sucks because I would love to see my sons kill there first coues. Game and Fish wants to give opportunity then could have at least taken all the extra tags they added in november and made them a any antlered deer hunt like it was in the 80's instead of two seperate hunts and left the late hunt alone. I guess I will just have to give the SAN CARLOS REZ my money again, better coues anyways. AZ GAME AND FISH CAN GO #$%* themselves.
az4life Report post Posted April 20, 2006 I agree with DesertBull. Why do they have to manage every unit the same way. Read back and you will see the unit manager recommendations were carbon copies that they were forced to their unit plans. Twernt foolin no one! This whole thing is not about managing the game resources, it is about managing the money. I too wonder if this will ever give opportunity to new hunters and can only believe it will ruin the experience for more than it will improve. AZGFD seems to have made up their plans even in the face of the overwhelming hunter opposition and it would not surprise me if the meeting is just window dressing. Everyone who can should show up to the meeting, and let these burrocrats know they are in for a rough ride in the future when they stick it to us.
daryl_s Report post Posted April 20, 2006 I don't get this whole hunter oppurtunity thing?????? The draw success given in the back of the regulations has plenty of units with a 100% draw success, yet we are going to give more tags to those hunts and take away from December????? 36B is one of the best units in the state and with plenty of trophy bucks and they had a 100% draw success for October. If people don't get drawn it's because they don't know how to fill out a form, don't know how to read the stats, or they are holding out for a Dec tag(which there will be less of.). I am yet to draw a Dec tag in my life......I put in for Dec hunts for my first 4 choices and October for my last. I get drawn every year. I think the vast majority of hunters on this site understand how to get drawn and have made it very clear through the survey what it is that they want. I would much rather hunt in December but October or November beats sitting at home. If the draw succes rates are already so high(assuming you know how to put in), then why take away from the quality hunts saying that you need more hunter oppurtunity
