POPPIES are blooming!

Recommended Posts

My husband has been out to two different areas that have some great poppy blooms going on right now. One area is on the San Carlos and one is near Superior. The first set of photos is from San Carlos and then the 2nd group is from Peachville Mtn. Read below for directions to each site.

Here are a few pics that my hubsand Paul took recently on Peridot Mesa, on the San Carlos Reservation (you need a $10 recreation permit to visit this area, available at Circle K and FastStop in Globe or Basha's on the Rez - just 2miles past peridot mesa). Directions: Take hwy 70 toward San Carlos and just past milepost 268, look for dirt road on left, marked by a cattle guard that is bracketed by two white H-shaped poles. Drive the road about .5 mile to the flowers! You can see them from the hwy.

Here are some photos Peachville Mtn near Superior (no permit needed). Directions: from PHX area, take Hwy 60 to Superior. Just past milepost 225 look for superior airport and Welcome to Superior sign on Right. Opposite this, on left side of road, is unmarked dirt road (Silver King Mine Rd/Forest Rd 229). Take this road approx 4 miles North towards peachville mtn. Watch for industrial park and electrical utility substation within first 1/2 mile and bear right around each of these. After four miles go past wooden livestock corral, and the best poppies are within the next half mile (above and to the left).

Nice pics, Amanda! Nice to see a few flowers out there, given the slight rain we've had this year. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a Spring storm or two to hopefully bolster the Gambel's popoulation this fall.....

Again, great pics! Love the pic of the two little ones! ;)

Awesome pics! Brings back memories of sitting in the boat catching crappie at Carlos and looking out to see the hills covered in poppies.

That picture of Paul along with Julie & Sunshine is one of my favorites. I hope no poppies were hurt in taking that picture. lol :)
