HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Recommended Posts

some birthday. a hundred years ago all we had to worry about was pancho villa and a few grizzly bears. nowadays we're up against el chapo guzman and the sfw tag monster.

me thinks i would rather have to face up to pancho and ol' suzy.....at least those would be some straight-up fights....

The early 1900s were not all that they were cracked up to be. For example, medicine still had a long way to go in 1912. I would have not have survived the blood poisoning I got from a dog bite in the 1970s or from the heart attack that struck ten years ago. My wife, daughter and granddaughter still are with us, too, only because of medicine and treatments that did not exist 100 years ago.

Happy B-day AZ, indeed!!! :)

Out of curiosity, who is a native of the state. I am! Proud to say that I'm the native son of an AZ copper miner! ;) (Born and raised in Kearny!) Any other natives out there?

Born in Tucson, 61 years ago. Loved reading Bill's columns in the paper.

I'm at least a 4th generation native. Don't remember if I'm more than that. Couple of my great, great grandparents helped settle the Pinedale area.

5Th generation for me and 6th for my boys!

Happy Birthday to our Great state!

About 1.5 years ago Scott Baxter contacted my family as he was tasked with finding 100 Ranches that have been in the same family for over 100 years. http://www.100years100ranchers.com/

Our family was blessed to be one of them.

Wow! Some of you guys have some LONG tenure on me! My grandpa imigrated to the US (legally..... ;) ) from Norway in the early 1900's, and dad migrated from Missouri to AZ after WW2 as a young engineer/geologist. Only a single generation native here, but proud to be raising my kids in the great state of AZ! :)

Stanley:

I used to hunt quail with my father-in-law where Kearny is now. He lived in Hayden Junction, when there still was such a place. We also caught bass in a little lake in the town of Ray, which also is long gone. I remember when Tiger, Christmas, Twin Buttes, Mohawk, Aguila and Tacna were inhabited. Where Green Valley is now, we used to shoot doves and quail, and hunt javelinas and mule deer.

My birth certificate says I was born in 1936 in Pima County, three miles east of Tucson. That event took place on my grandfather's ranch on Speedway near Alvernon. Campbell marked Tucson's city limits on the east in those days. Grant Road was its northern limit.

I know I'm old but, in my mind, I'm a 16-year-old trapped in an aging body.

In 1879 my great, great grand father on my mothers side came to Arizona, and Cochise County as a Taylor for the army. In 1880 my great great grandparents on my fathers side came to Tombstone because the mines in Leadville Colorado were playing out. This makes me 5th generation Arizonan and Cochise county on both sides of the family.

I married a third generation Arizona girl so and we have three 6th generation Arizona kids. No grand kids yet, but hopefully it won't be too long.
