GreeneMachine Report post Posted February 12, 2012 My dad has been taking my 16 yr old nephew (his grandson) out hunting for years. And my nephew has developed a passion for hunting as well as collecting taxidermy, etc. My nephew is also in to reptiles, and he's had numerous snakes in cages through the years. Well apparently a couple years ago, the two were out hunting together and my dad found this shed and gave it to my nephew. My nephew apparently threw it in one of his snake cages and it's been sitting there unnoticed for a few years. I'm over at their house today and they pull this thing out of the snake cage. I immediately ask my nephew where it came from and he said his Papa found it on a hunt and gave it to him. I'm thinking Papa probably bought that somewhere and tossed it on the ground so his grandson could make an incredible "find". So I call my dad, and sure as heck, he found this shed a few years ago....at Willow Springs!! So here's my first question (and I know it sounds silly) but is this for sure a coues shed or did someone drop their eastern whitetail rattling shed by accident? That eyeguard is crazy! I know the measuring technique in the pic is not accurate, but it'll get you close. I am certain this thing has at least a 19" main beam. We measured this one antler at 55 5/8. And it's missing probably two inches of it's G3. My obvious second question is what do you think this deer would have scored by looking at these pics, assuming his right side matched of course? Coues Sniper Report post Posted February 12, 2012 Heck of a shed. No way to tell if it's for sure a Coues, but I see no reason to say it isn't. Just a monster Coues deer. If he matched he could be a high 20's type deer for sure. Sweet find.
firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted February 12, 2012 That looks bigger than a 55" shed... Look at all the length! That is one of a kind right there, and an aboluste dream deer!
azpackhorse Report post Posted February 12, 2012 If you are talking Willow Springs up by Oracle it is absolutely possible for it to be a Coues shed. It looks whitetail to me. Nice!
mklong40 Report post Posted February 12, 2012 That is an absolute stud of a shed. I know where this was found, and yes it is Willow Springs across from Oracle. My buddy, who posted this, and I have been hunting this area for 20+ years and I have never seen a whitetail anywhere near where this was found. I have seen them in 37b further north but never down south. I have read several forums, most on here, about people claiming to see them out in the flats of Willow Springs but to be honest, most of the time I discounted it......I guess this is the proof. Incredible shed, and to think its been sitting it a snake cage for a year is hillarious!
Snapshot Report post Posted February 12, 2012 If both sides matched, and had a 16" spread(Approx) that would put it at around 127". A monster for sure!

GreeneMachine Report post Posted February 15, 2012 that is or was one heck of a buck No kidding, makes me want to go grab a 37B WT tag! Although I've yet to see a WT on the hoof out there in 20+ years. Also makes me want to have my dad take me to the exact spot he found the shed and see if we can locate the other side. POB Report post Posted February 21, 2012 That's not that far of a walk from Oracle. I've never seen a coues there, but... a buck will walk a long ways after a doe.
