MooseCoues Report post Posted April 1, 2006 Just moved here a couple of months ago. Man is it hot down here! Not at all what I am use to up in AK. Didn't want to come right out and ask where to go so I started reading the forum. Found this post from October, "my dad and i are down depending on where we hunt. if we hunt grass tank area, we wont be able to make it. BUT, if we hunt this other area we are thinking of hunting, it shouldnt be a problem as it is not far from the highway. lets get a date set and i will know weather or not my dad and i can make it! i think my 9 y/o bro will be with us also." and was able find this place on the map. I set out a couple of weekends ago and picked this up after a couple hours of hiking around. Man what is up with this place? It is so brown! Does it ever rain down here? And what is up with everything having thorns? Ouch! So what do you think of this rack? Is this pretty good for S AZ? I am use to hunting and scoring Sitka blacktail so I had to look up how to measure Coues. Pretty sure I figured it out. Came up with 122". 20 inch main beams, 9.5 inch G2s, 4.5 inch bases and a 15 inch inside spread. Not quite like the brutes they get in the midwest but I guess it will have to do for now. Can't wait to get me one of those Dec tags so I can get out and hunt when it is nice and cool. Talk to you later - The MOOSE
azcouesandelk Report post Posted April 1, 2006 People like me have looked there whole lives and have not found a rack that nice. That thing is a HAWG man. I bet you really miss Alaska.
Shiras Report post Posted April 2, 2006 Since it takes 110 to make B&C and 65 to make P&Y and this 'ole boy is around 122......I'm pretty sure that was a heck of a find there! Congratulations. The 110 minimum Coues score in relation to the 108 Sitka should give you some sort of indication of what a trophy you've got on your hands! -Shiras

COOSEFAN Report post Posted April 3, 2006 I was thinking the same thing. "So what do you think of this rack? Is this pretty good for S AZ? I am use to hunting and scoring Sitka blacktail so I had to look up how to measure Coues. Pretty sure I figured it out. I would think if you are used to dealing with a smaller sub specie like the Blacktail, you would have full understanding of what you are talking about here! I think Moosecoues is messin' around. Kilimanjaro Report post Posted April 7, 2006 Come guys.. Ya'll know I didn't have anything to do with this particular hill country buck that he found around Bear Grass Tank!!! For reals on this one...He is a purty nice buck for Kerr county though!! But the question is... who is the mystery man that calls himself Moosecoues?? You guys know that I would have come up with a more clever name than that.. Such as Prettyboy... or how about Cockyboy?? Those seem to follow me around quite often when I'm on here!!! Hey Chef, any guesses on where I'll be eating at lunch when I roll into San Angelo next Thurs when I get there for the annual turkey hunt??? That is pretty funny... we were just talking about that place yesterday when we were finalizing the plans. I am meeting the crew there and we were all taking about how much we miss that place now that none of us live there anymore... MMMMM!!! You AZ boys don't know what you're missin'.... I'll say OK, and then to convineantly forget to pick you up that morning and then proceed to kill a limit of Mearns before lunch, and then go ahead and round out the day with an afternoon of Gambels and Scalies just for good measure!! I'm tellin ya, it ain't me!! Yo Juro!! I don't know who is messing around with all of you gullibles here, but it ain't me! But I would have liked to have been the one who really did find that out there at Bear Grass, but I'm not that lucky... Now... the real trick is to finding out the real culprit here so I can stop being his scapegoat!
COOSEFAN Report post Posted April 7, 2006 "Come guys.. Ya'll know I didn't have anything to do with this particular hill country buck that he found around Bear Grass Tank!!!" Hey ScottyBoy, Moosecoues never said anything about " Bear" grass tank. Just mentioned "Grass Tank". For the record, and if anyone is curious, there is NO deer around "Bear Grass Tank"! None! So don't go there, it sucks, go look for "Grass Tank" instead! JIM
