It looks like a number of us want to get together before the ADA meeting. If there are going to be more than a few of us, we will need to make reservations at The Fish Company so that we can all sit down together.

I suggest 5 to 5:15 PM in order to have enough time to discuss the issues issues. I'll need to make a reservation by Saturday afternoon.

I ask that all who are interested post your intent here so that I can get a close head count.

I will give my $10. each to Amanda and Kent at that meeting.

Hey Allen, I owe ya something for the nice words. As far as what folks think of as bashing, after the things that wiers, pbj and little smacky have said, I think folks have been quite civil.

I'm out in the middle of the Mohave desert for awhile so I won't be there. I probably wouldn't have much to offer anyway. Sitting here on this frigid dern mountain with a little time to think I'm of the opinion that folks we all trusted and maybe even thought a lot of, have really disappointed

a lot of folks. I don't see sfw ever recovering. At least not what they had. They have enough money backing them to stay alive and I think they will try the tag grab again because they think they deserve them. But as long as the ada won't condemn 2072 and long as they let their ranks be stunk up by the guys from the sfw that tried it, I don't see it surviving as it is either. Too bad too. There are some good folks with good intentions in it. But the bad have taken over. Lark

I see through the statement released today by AZSFW that they have moved on to the divide and conquer portion of their campaign. It makes me ill right down to my very being that the SFW would go so far as to sling mud at truly grassroots gatherings of stakeholders just to try and justify their existence. I have always wanted Arizona sportsmen/women to come together for a great cause and I hope this one is great enough to bring us together although it appears that the little guys haven't truly been informed yet or the screams would be louder.

Well, we've said this isn't over and the threat has to be removed before the solutions if any can move forward. No way most are going to give money to anyone that may turn around and give it to azsfw. This has been a main theme this last couple of weeks. azsfw isn't dead until they say they are dead.

Technically the statement came today from azsfw'c', which some have been defending, saying they are not connected to azsfw... doesn't sound like what azsfw'c' is saying themselves.

Today, I got my hands on an advance copy of an Open Letter to sportsmen from AZSFW. It contains a short apology for keeping us in the dark regarding HB 2072. It continues with 4 1/2 pages of justification for the bill.

It took over a month to come out with this letter. How long did they work on the bill before it was filed?

It almost appears that they think they are better qualified to manage our wildlife than the Game and Fish Departemnt.

George, please save me a seat at the restaurant for the pre-meeting next tuesday. I am looking forward to seeing the letter from the AZSFW, circling the lies will be almost as fun as a crossword puzzle. :)

Dom: good post (generally). I think that some of the outbursts you see/hear on CW are actually from people that spend time/money/efforts for wildlife that you may not be aware of. Take .270 as an example. I sat side by side with Lark during the USO fiasco at commission meetings. He is so vocal because he CARES about wildlife here in AZ as well as everywhere else. He most likely was fed up with the way alot of org's morphed into social cliques instead of staying focused on the primary goal of helping wildlife. Many org's have developed into "exclusive" clubs that give off the vibe that makes people feel less than welcome. After saying this, many will get defensive and not look at this potential, but it is there. Kent probably has some of these same feelings. With everyone being so busy in life/job/family, some of us determine our best "fit" in wildlife conservation and we do what we can, like junior hunters efforts, work projects, money donation.........etc..........but we all probably support where we feel our efforts/dollars/time will be most beneficial. Right now and for the past couple of weeks, people are looking at the orgs like ADA and want to know where they stand. The reason this is important is twofold:

1. ADA supported AZSFW and AZSFW just pushed HB2072 that alot of people dont think was in the best interest of wildlife

2. Alot of people think since AZSFW did this, ADA needs to sever ties so any money/effort ADA gets doesnt go back to AZSFW

If ADA had made a stand against HB2072/AZSFW immediately, there are alot of people that would be committed to the upcoming banquet. As it sits now, I know personally of many who just dont want to spend the money on raffles, auction items etc when they dont know if AZSFW will still get its cut.

As Kent mentioned, there are changes in the wind and maybe the outcome of the meeting on the 21st will give us a picture of where we are going. I urge everyone to attend. Hopefully ADA stands up and shows us where they plan on going. If not, we have some planning to do if we all sincerely believe our #1 mission is the preservation and enhancement of wildlife in AZ .............Allen Taylor.........

Allen I understand most of your thoughts but one stands out in my opinion.

You state that many people dont want to come to our banquet and purchase raffle tickets, live auction ect cause of our ties with azsfw or have funded them in the past.

Well lets think about this for a moment.. Who loses if the deer association fails at our banquet... We will have no funds for junior camps, no funds for water projects, no funds to haul water to unit 12 or 13 like we do practically every year,no funds to remove coyotes, as you might know there are 2 of the ADA's water trailers sitting on the kaibab.

We will have no funds to put on a great deer seminar with rifle shooting (bullets and guns supplied by the ada) and not .22 cal last year kids shot .243 and 257 weatherby,300 magnum, muzzleloaders and alot more calibers. A great expierance for any junior. I wish when I was a kid I had that opportunity, but there were no such orginazations around.

As I believe all of you know the board members, presidents and such get no compensation, none, no gas allowance to pull the trailer nothing.Every hat or shirt you see us wearing that have the ADA logo on it we purchased.

Again who loses, If you think that the 5000.00 "I believe thats the correct amount" that we did donate to the azsfw last year makes them that powerfull your all crazy.

Ask a smiling kid that shot a pig or deer at one of our ada junior deer camps in the past how he would feel if the ada had no funds to do it again see what there reaction is.

We are all losing our kids to xbox, playstation, wii, cellphones and now the worst texting.

heck look at gas prices who do we blame for that and lets stop supporting all the oil companies. Walk to work for the next few weeks. do u see my point

Most if not every board member has a mission is mind "GROW MORE DEER, JUNIOR HUNTER AND RETENTION" If we cant do that they we are no differant then the average joe hunter.

Alot of you are easy to bash the ADA because we didnt vote on a unvotable situation really!!!

For the record the ADA has raised millions of dollars and spend millions right here in Arizona where you all hunt. A small appreciation for all that we have done in the past would be nice.

And as for the banquet if its a failure "which I doubt" there may not be another Junior camp or a water project. And believe me guys and gals Im starting NOT to care either.

see you all on the 21 who decides to show up

Dom

If the ada were to fail it wouldn't be nearly as devastating as it would have if the sfw had succeeded. Dominos are gonna fall and after all the ones that are gonna fall have, folks can put things back together. And again, all the ada has to is make one little statement to regain a lot of lost credibility. Lark.

Here's reality... support or the perception of support by nonaction of AZSFW will be the downfall or marginalization of ADA. This is a political issue not a conservation issue. This is a political fight not a conservation fight. YVRGC and AES made a swift political public decision for their survival and are reaping the goodwill benefit. ADA leadership has not followed and obviously are still in support and have kept themselves in the limelight, I said leadership, as some of the ADA members are also questioning the leadership. Then there are the other orgs hiding in the bushes, we see you and will deal with that later.

There is X amount of conservation money out there, during this political turmoil a dip is inevitable, deal with that reality. If AZSFW is removed the money will come back and the orgs that stood tall will benefit as will a possible reorganization of the conservation platform, including the license money and such.

Fight for you political life and you may have a conservation future.

Well your President was defending the bill with everything he had. So, if you dont want ada to fail then purge the snakes, very simple.

I am sorry that I stole your truck and guns, I was just trying to feed my poor little children. STOP with the crying. If ada doesnt collect the money then someone else will. Nobody is irreplacable NOBODY.

First post so here goes…

I joined this site when the HB2072 first came to light. I have been very impressed with the skill in which AZ hunters were able to stop this legislation. I have previously lived in Utah and can tell you that SFW, in my opinion, is a cancer that is quickly spreading throughout the west. When I first learned that SFW was forming in AZ, I begged everybody to do everything they could to stop it. This was done on Bowsite. On that site Chris Denham told me they would be different that Utah SFW and that they wouldn’t try and get wealth tags. Well now HB2072 has come out and I am stuck here scratching my head?

I am sure that everybody has read the AZSFWC response to HB2072. They claim to not be involved in the drafting process. I am not sure if they are pushing everything onto AZSFW? They appear to be one and the same to me. Same address, many of the same members, etc.

Now to my question as it relates to ADA. Can anybody from the ADA help me understand who actually briefed them on the concept of HB2072? Was it AZSFWC or AZSFW? Are these groups the same? Can anybody directly name the individuals who helped with the proposed legislation? It seems very strange to me that in over a month the general public doesn’t know who was behind this bill. I have a strong suspicion that this is AZSFW and that the board of AZSFWC were directly involved. I am looking for clarity on this issue?

It is disingenuous at best, more like an outright lie if the same board members from AZSFWC who are on AZSFW now claim they didn’t know what the other group was doing. I am sure I am not the only one who is lost in the issue. It seems very similar to how Utah SFW has worked. The wolf issue is classic! They get caught sending out an email requesting congress not support the Simpson/Tester rider then when it’s passed try and take credit for getting it passed. Seems similar to me. They try and push HB2072 in an emergency bill and then when it gets killed they claim to not be involved with it.

Dom: I meant/mean no dis-respect in my prior post or this post. I fully understand the "hunters clinic", juniors deer, banquet etc..... My simple issue is with ADA's association with AZSFW/AZSFWC. I have not seen where that relationship is beneficial, I feel it is a hinderance. I personally was assured a few years back that "Tag Grabbing" was not in AZSFW's agenda. I was assured that ADA would fight against that. It sures seems to me that they are not "Fighting against it". As such, I think many feel the same way and will not support a group that sends money to AZSFW/AZSFWC. I did not state that money/time/effort will be withheld, The money/time/effort will just be re-located to an organization that is 100% for AZ wildlife and not with "hidden agenda". You can call me if you want, but hopefully the above is clear/concise on where I stand...........Allen Taylor.......480-258-3726
