young-coueshunter Report post Posted February 2, 2012 Does anyone know what month the ice melts in the Whitemountains. Would like to plan a fishing trip soon but just wants to get a better idea when I should go. Thanks young - coues
billrquimby Report post Posted February 4, 2012 Don't plan on anything "soon." The lakes near Greer can have ice as late as late March, but it depends on the year. Bill Quimby
young-coueshunter Report post Posted February 6, 2012 Thanks Bill, yea that's kinda what I thought. Just maybe figured since its been kinda warm that maybe the ice would melt sooner. But that's prly when I'll plan the trip towards the end of march.

biglakejake Report post Posted March 2, 2012 the best source of info for the white mountain lakes and travel conditions would be the site that rick and clotilda law started with their kids. www.biglakeaz.com great pics too. anybody else wish they were 15 or 16 and could drop out long enough to take the dock job for the summer? lee
billrquimby Report post Posted March 2, 2012 AZGFD's fishing update claims ice is gone from Becker and some of the lakes on the Pinetop/Lakeside side of the mountain. There is a photo of a huge trout caught at Becker this week. You might try calling its Pinetop office and ask to speak to the regional fishing specialist.
