Jimmer Negamanee Report post Posted January 28, 2012 Great find! You should be proud of it! Regarding the distance apart you could expect to find the other side, in my limited experience, I have a very accurate but completely unhelpful answer . "It depends." If you're talking about elk sheds I'd say the bigger the shed, the closer they'll be together. I've found them literally on top of each other before. My rule is the bigger the shed, the harder Ill look for the match. At one point, I had never found a 5 pt. or larger antler without finding the other side. (I always imagine a big elk being very lopsided once one side drops then shaking his heads until the other side drops too. But I have no idea if that really happens.) Unfortunately, that theory didnt last too long as Ive since found 2 nice 6 pt elk sheds without finding the match. I've found ONE matching set of coues sheds and they were 3 ft. apart. But it seems that deer dont drop them as close as elk do. Hopefully someone else on here will chime in with their experience. Anywho, great job! Sheds found are a measure of time spent in the field and time spent in the field is always a good thing. Thanks for posting.

Mathews Report post Posted January 29, 2012 Heck of a find for your first! If they are not laying side by side, chances are you'll have a tough time finding the other side anywhere near. Like Jimmer said, elk tend to be a bit easier to match up. The heavier the horn, the easier it will be to match up, generally.. All speculation though.. sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you dont.
