Timing is everything!

Recommended Posts

Well haven't had much time to get out but I got out saturday morning and a friend and I headed to 23, We glassed up some small bucks and where moving spots and were walking back to the Ranger when we picked up some more deer so we sat down and glassed them up. After watching for 20 min we had a good mule deer buck bedded and it was on, I took off on a stalk while my buddy watched and glassed, as I got near him the worse thing happened, AZGFD flying right up the canyon about 300 feet up doing a survey, wow, the deer took off and another stalk blown.. I was upset and still are, kind of wonder why this cant be done after the season or during the week when there is less people out..I callled a friend who works for AZGFD to make sure it was them and it was, they have points picked out on GPS and fly the same every year,, so I guess I wont be back in the canyon next year... I think I read something on this about antelope hunts... they do the survey during the "rut" because more bucks can be observed. Not positive but thought that was the discussion.

Last year or the year before in 23 during my HAM hunt there were 3 planes doing this. We thought maybe it was an airplane club. But just like Andy said they were flying like they had predetermined points, so maybe it was G&F. No wonder I did not see any pigs..... :(
