BigGameHunter Report post Posted December 27, 2011 After a long day of stalking and hunting last week .. just to have the 4x4 disappear right out from under me .. I was reminded of how humbling hunting can be. You can have all the best gear, have all the elements in your favor, but it just takes when stroke of bad luck to be "unsuccessful (in my case the buck drifted to the other side of the wash - while I was coming over the top of the bank). It was the walk back to the truck in the dark that reminded me of how lucky I am that I had the opportunity. Humility is just one lesson that I learn from hunting, but I know that I can name another 100 lessons if given the time. Enjoy the time you spend in teh desert/woods I will find that buck again ... and persistence and hard work will triumph.
bigorange Report post Posted December 27, 2011 Hunting will definitely give you a lesson in humility, and patience, and persistence, and a lot of other lessons like you said. Had a similar experience with a nice 4x4 bedded perfectly looking upwind..snuck in behind him from downwind and never could spot him through the ocotillos and brush. Got to about 45 yards and never saw him until he bolted. Saw deer all day that day and 4 or 5 bucks. After one of my best days hunting, I went back to the same place yesterday and saw no deer all day until 2 does decided to come out right at sunset. Definitely humbling.
