CouesWhitetail Report post Posted February 21, 2012 From talking to people that were there, you all sure had a blast! Everyone mentions the songs that the young ladies sang too! When I get a chance I will scan the lyrics to the 2 songs they sang and you guys will get a big laugh out of the words! Hopefully I can post video of them singing too, they are very talented young ladies!
Pine Donkey Report post Posted February 22, 2012 This was a great camp. Amanda did a wonderful job organizing it and making sure all the hunters were taken care of. Woody is a great cook, those ribs were excellent, as was all the food. We really enjoyed meeting so many members that we only knew through the Internet. Special thanks to TJ who worked so hard to try and put Laurie on a pig. This weekend showed us many things, but the clearest thing is that this is greatest site on the web because it is made up of wonderful people. Thanks again Amanda for providing this site and giving everybody a medium for sharing our passion.
CouesWhitetail Report post Posted February 22, 2012 Many thanks to AGFD for providing a grant that funded the food portion of this camp. We had about 21 novice women hunters at the camp and about 30 mentors. Youth Outdoors Unlimited had about 5-8 guys cooking for everyone and the food was great. Unfortunately I didn't take pics of the food!! Bummer! The ribs were awesome, as was Woody's dutch oven cornbread with green chili pork mixed in. YUM! Woody also bought a nice bouquet of flowers to put on the table for the ladies! Nice touch! We had a lot of rain thursday and some of the ladies had never even set up a tent before, much less in the rain and in the dark!! so it was an adventure for many! Many thanks to TJ and Peg, Ilene and Kathy for providing some great food on Wednesday night when some of our students arrived from out of state before the official hunt started! Peg did a tri-tip roast, some javelina stuffed mushrooms and jalapeno poppers and yummy cheesey potatoes. Ilene made perfect ribs and I believe Kathy made a pasta salad. I pulled into camp late on Wednesday night and was ever so grateful for that amazing food! I got to test out my new popup camper and it performed like a champ in the wind and rain! What a treat to have a heater and some warmth on those cold mornings and nights. My friend Linda shared the popup with me for a couple days and then Tracy and Angie stayed with me one night also! Great company! I can't say enough about the quality of the mentors we had for this camp!! We had some great hunters there that are also very good at teaching a novice hunter all about things like glassing, stalking javelina, and how to make a good shot. This camp would be nothing without the great mentors that dedicate there time to this event. Thank you so much!! Unlike last year, we only had 1 lady kill a javelina. But we had maybe 5 ladies miss shots at pigs. At least this year we didn't have any wounded and unretrieved javelina. We had a GREAT turnout of CouesWhitetail.com members who served as members. Forum member YOUNGGUNZ came out there with a great positive attitude and maps of known locations of herds as well as a posse of great guys who helped glass. It was his crew that managed to get the one and only pig of the event. Thanks so much to team YOUNGGUNZ!! It was a real pleasure working with Carl and his crew. TJ and Peg, Pine Donkey, Roger and Ilene, Mark Healy (Wildlife Callers), Casino Canines, Gr8whiteJr and Girlygirlhunter were some of the other members that were there and were so very helpful!! They served as great mentors, let people stay in their RVs and provided some amazing food before and after the official hunt. Hopefully I am not missing anyone! If I am speak up. here is a list of all the mentors (sorry if I am missing anyone! please let me know and I can update the list): Michelle Crabb (AGFD) Ilene Hailey Tom Joiner Gerry Perry (retired AGFD) Cindi and Corky Richardson Kathy Greene Debbie Wesch Tracey and Angie Linda Dightmon Carl Young and Team Young GUNZ! Mark Healey and his friend Mike Jon Vance Mark Frieberg (AGFD) Mark Hullinger Gabe Paz (AGFD) Reland Kane Scott Greene Donna VanVlack Jerry Gollubier Ken Rowlett Nash Clark Andrew Nelson Jeff Beck Derrick Greene here are some pics of the event: on the last day my student hiked up to a cave where we thought the pigs had gone (but they hadn't) and found fresh lion tracks and a scrape. here is a pic of her looking down from the area. YOUNGGUNZ Report post Posted February 23, 2012 I had such a great time this weekend. All of the mentors / Forum members I got to meet as well as all the dedicated students I enjoyed every minute of it. To all my boys that came down to help, Scott and Jeff Beck, Nash, Derrick and Nelson you guys were fantastic. I know I can speak for all of us when I say that the students that we had for the weekend, Edie, Jeanine, Stacy, Anissa and Terrie were all truly inspiring in their willingness to learn and harvest a Pig. Congratulations Anissa on making a perfect 120 yard shot on your Javelina. Both Amanda and Y.O.U. did a great job as hosts Chef and coordinators of this event and we cannot wait until the next event. CouesWhitetail Report post Posted March 13, 2012 some comments about the camp that I received: Dear Amanda, My husband, Andres, and I want to thank you so much for the wonderful weekend we had. It was an amazing opportunity for us to learn about hunting and the correct way to handle firearms. We both enjoyed ourselves immensely and learned A LOT! Our mentors (Jerry, Tracy and Angie) were extrememly knowledgeable and answered all our questions. Everyone we met had such a love for hunting and the outdoors; it was so great to see and be a part of. We are grateful to have been able to share in this time with you and want to thank you and everyone from Youth Outdoors Unlimited, all the mentors and everyone else who put this camp together. It is a wonderful idea and I am letting you know right now that Andres and I will be showing up next year, as well! Thank you again! Sincerely, Alina Fuggiti Barcenas
CouesWhitetail Report post Posted March 13, 2012 A comment from one of the ladies who attended: Hi Amanda, I am so glad that I came to the Womens Javelina Hunt down in the wildlife reserve... I was astounded at the number and variety of deer in the area along with seeing that lion.. I also want to say that my guide Kathy Green was most gracious and taught me a lot about deer and Javelina..things I would never have known. Kathy also taught me to glass properly just by watching her. She is a very patient person as I have some physical limitations that got in my way this trip..Next year that should be much improved. I had a very serious new back injury Dec 10 2011 and did not know if I would be well enough to come to the hunt. I was well enough to come and learn but not to walk and climb much this time.. That will change as I continue to heal this year. I have been talking to some of my friends about this hunt and they want to come next year.. I have given out some of the Arizona Outdoor Women brochures to my friends and will give out the rest to my Her Hand Gun shooting group the first Sunday in March. I will talk to Kippie Letham and Debbie Keehart from Her Hand Gun about contacting you about putting some kind of womens shooting program together if you are still open to that. Their website is www.herhandgun.com you can contact them there if you wish..just let them know that I made the connection to you for them... Thank you for all of the hard work that you and all of the volunteers did to put this program together. I met some really lovely men and women some of whom have become friends and future hunting partners... I have attached two pictures of the flowers that the guys put on the table for us women...it was very sweet of them to do that....Well thats all for now... If you know of any other hunts coming up please keep me on the mailing list because I would like to know about them.. My best.. Patti
