GRONG Report post Posted March 7, 2006 Thought you all would like to see one less lion in the woods. We guided Jerry Pressley from Ajo on a 5 day hunt over the past weekend. On the 4th day of his hunt we finally connected and caught this HUGE female lion. We all swore it was a tom in the tree until we got it down. We all were in disbelief when we checked it and found out it "wasn't packin". I'd guess this lion to be barely smaller than TAM's lion that he got a month ago with us. She probably weighed real close to 100lbs. Enjoy the pics. Josh

az4life Report post Posted March 7, 2006 Congratulations to Jerry and you too Josh! That does look to be a big female cat. With all that kitty killin, you are certainly helping Elk and Deer populations, I think you should list yourself as a wildlife conservation expert. Thanks for the pictures. GRONG Report post Posted March 8, 2006 Thanks a lot for the comments guys, we've been seriously busting our tails to catch what we have so far. It's an absolute blast I tell ya! We've seen some awesome country and made some life long friends in the process which is even better! Personally, we would rather hunt on the dry ground over snow. If we sat around and waited for it to snow all of the dogs would be fat and out of shape and we wouldn't have anything to show for it other than dogfood reciepts. We have absolutely no competition out in the woods either. We haven't seen one lion hunter in the woods since Oct. Actually that's not totally true, this past week we saw 2 different guys over in the 17a/b area. Other than that, no one. We've been all over the place hunting too. It's been one of the best winters I've seen for lion hunting. We've caught 8 since Oct and have taken 5 out of the gene pool so far. We're hoping to add one more to the list by the end of the week too. I'll keep you guys posted. Glad you all liked the pics.
Azlongears Report post Posted March 8, 2006 You're all a bunch of Lion Haters!!! You may think that killing these few cats will make a difference in the Deer/Elk herds, but unfortunately there is always another cat waiting to fill that territory. Those lions are just as important part of the ecosystem as our "precious" deer and elk are. Just think how many more deer and elk those large perdators kill than we do with our one tag every year. If the preadators were all gone the herbivore herds would be wiped out by disease and competition for sure.

They need to be controlled and I definitely think taking what we do every year has a positive impact on the deer/elk herds. my $0.02 JIM
Azlongears Report post Posted March 9, 2006 Let me guess, if we didnt control them, "Those evil lions would eat every last deer/elk out there!!!!" Right, they'd just eat themselves straight into extinction. Funny, you'd think that the of thousands of years they were around before we started "CONTROLLING" them they would have done that already?????
