COOSEFAN Report post Posted March 6, 2006 Has anyone heard of any "brownies" picked up yet? I know of guys that have been out but haven't heard of any antlerless bulls runnin' around yet. The water sources are scarce and the elk are in tight together so the sheds will get picked up fast this year! Thanks JIM

Lance Report post Posted March 7, 2006 Yes there are many bulls running around without antlers. Just hard to find. I'll try to post some pic's later. I just developed some trail cam pic's from up to Feb 28 with bulls with big racks still on.
azhuntnut Report post Posted March 7, 2006 I was over on the rez. this weekend with Dan(apache7mm) and we saw a bull without any horns. He was also able to glass up about six sheds in one area that was anywhere from 500-700 yards away with 10x40 binos. I will be over there again in a couple weeks and I am sure I will be tripping over them, but I can't pick them up. David

COOSEFAN Report post Posted March 10, 2006 I finally got news! Buddies of ours found 3 sets from 360" to 290". There were a bunch of camps out in the woods last weekend which hasn't been the case the previous weekends. They saw quite a few bulls with both sides and a few with only one, and even seen some bruisers still sporting their headgear! Now's the time to be out there. Just a heads up, JIM
Coues 'n' Sheep Report post Posted March 13, 2006 We picked up six Brownies on Friday.... 2 match sets.... 2 singles. The one single, is one side to a 360+, 7x7 and we are pretty sure some one eles found the other side. .... Had fun though....
COOSEFAN Report post Posted March 14, 2006 That's awesome Coues'n'Sheep! I was supposed to head out on Sat. but decided against it with the snow. I'm heading out this Fri. for the weekend and hopefully can make it back in to where I hunt. The roads are going to be bad! Has anyone heard about the 460" set a game warden found? I know two different guys that know two different neighbors of this game warden and he has shown them to these guys. I heard he was checking a trick tank in, I think, unit 27 and found them on the tank. They said it was around a 456" 8 x 9 set!!!! I couldn't imagine finding a set of sheds like that, especially right after they hit the ground!!! Coues'n'Sheep, I hope your buddy finds his buck, that would be a nightmare for sure! Red Rabbit Report post Posted March 14, 2006 That's a find that we'll certainly hear and hopefully see more of. Wonder what the WR for a set of sheds scores? RR
COOSEFAN Report post Posted March 14, 2006 I was wondering the same thing about the WR shed score. I know someone found the set off of the bull that Pete Davis' client killed in unit 8 and it gross scored higher than these I think, and I believe Josh found the set from Nick Franklins WR non-typ from unit 8 as well. My brothers buddy was supposed to go see these sheds and maybe he got pic's and an OK to show them, I'll try to find out. JIM
COOSEFAN Report post Posted March 14, 2006 Josh would be the person to fill us in on the subject of sheds and scores.
GRONG Report post Posted March 15, 2006 I can't believe you guys haven't heard of the North American Shed Hunters Club!!! What the crap is all that about?!?!?!?! www.shedantlers.org is the website and the current (as of 1998) world record set scores 399 3/8" net, that's without a spread!! I measured a set from 9 a few years ago that beat that set with a score of around 406" I think, also without a spread. There is a set from CO from 1899 that scores around 424" w/o a spread that will hold the world record spot when the new book comes out. This set grosses at 499" given a 50" spread!!!!! And you call yourselves shed hunters..............
COOSEFAN Report post Posted March 15, 2006 Thanks for the info Josh. I have heard of the club before but I don't consider myself a serious shed hunter. I can't get out enough this time of year and seems like alot of antlers are being picked up before they hit the ground. Nothing is more frustrating than hiking deep in the woods on your limited time off, thinking you're there first, and seeing all the quad tracks zig-zagging around and over anything that got in there way! I even know guys that are out right now "flying" units looking for the obvious sheds which are usually the big ones! I don't believe you should be allowed to use ATV's and ultralights or paraplanes to shed hunt. I can't compete with those guys so I pick up the leftovers when I scout in July and August. Good job to the guys that hump the hills and find em' though! Just my $.02, thanks again fo the info Josh. JIM
