waitzbro Report post Posted March 3, 2006 Im a Senior in high school in New York and got accepted to NAU in flagstaff. What are the possibilities for me to hunt AZ as a college student? I dont really care what im going after, something the size of a turkey or bigger would be nice, and going after something with the bow would be really nice. Im not asking for archery bull elk tags I just wanna get in the woods! Are license fees going to hammer me or can I get some kind of residency by being a student? fatfootdoc Report post Posted March 3, 2006 Better check the hunting regulations on the website, because even though you are in school for 6 months you still have an out of state drivers license so I don't think you will qualify for a resident tag. When I was in med school in Iowa you just had to carry your student ID and you could purchase everything at the resident price, AZ is to screwed up to have something fair like that in its regulations I'm sure. I grew up in Flag and spent many a day perusing the hunting regs and do not recall ever seeing the above policy. Red Rabbit Report post Posted March 3, 2006 To apply as a resident, you need to be a bonafide resident of Arizona six months before applying for a resident license. You would need to permantly residing/maintaining a home in AZ, have an AZ drivers license, register your vehicle in AZ, pay AZ resident income taxes, and vote in AZ. You cannot be considered a resident of two states. 2005-06 Resident hunting licenses cost $25.50 and archery deer permits are $19.50. Non-resident hunting licenses are $113.50 and archery deer permits are $125.50. NR Archery turkey cost $50.50 You do not need to be drawn for Archery deer, archery turkey, fall bear, and mountain lion. These are over the counter. Fees will be increasing next fall. Dodger2 Report post Posted March 8, 2006 I graduated from NAU in '97 and I sure miss it up there, especially in the fall and spring (OK, summer and spring too). I loved being able to get up in the morning go out hunting, come back and go to class/work, and then go back out in the evening. Some good memories from up there.
