Our sight was hijacked ;)

This means we have lost all of our valuable info our optics and gear section. Or atleast I can't find anything. This sucks! How does this happen? How do we prevent it from happening again?

I have no idea how it happened. But in order to stop it I had to ban myself as an administrator and change my password. Tech support has given me no info as to how this could have happened, just that nothing on the internet is bulletproof.

I am working on trying to get back the posts that were deleted.

Whoever hijacked the site came in and suspended the moderators and then started deleting forum topics.

Since I don't know how it happened, I don't really know how to prevent other than following standard security measures.

What? ;) When did that happen? :o

Hackers Suck

Hope we can recover anything that was lost. Maybe there is a search engine that has a cache copy.

Whoever it was probably was trying to spam us on the site or maybe with our onfile email addresses.

Maybe it was the NRA after we found out about the coue they backed for Jennifer Martin.

Sounds like a Conspiracy......

Amanda was any info compromised, should we expect e-mails from coueswhitetail.com that aren't from you. Hope you have a way of tracing it to them, good luck.

Keith,

You bring up a good point. I'd hate to open an email from cwt.com and get some virus or worse ;)

I dont know if this has anything to do with this or not, but over the past several weeks I have noticed that Google.com has been listed at the bottom with everyone else registered at the time. And it was in the registered user part not the guest section. I thought it was someone who Googled the sight and was just checking things out. But thinking about it now. Why would Google register on this site? Might be the subterfuge. ????

I don't expect any mass email problems. But everyone should always keep their virus protection software updated.

The real problem is I don't know how they got my password, so I don't know how exactly to prevent this in the future. The attack seems to have stopped after I changed my password, so hopefully it will be ok.

As far as the "google" you see visiting the forum.... that is a "spider" sent out by the search engine to find content on the web. It's harmless and very useful. It updates info from the forum into their database so when people search for info on coues deer the data is there. Other search engines send "spiders" as well, like Ask Jeeves, and Yahoo.

FYI - I am sending an email out to everyone in the forum about the ADA deer survey. So don't get nervous if you get an email from me and the forum! It's the first time I have tried emailing everyone in the forum. I hope it works ok!

I got your email too. I have already passed the info on to others who are not part of cwt.com too.

A few words about Passwords.... I would suggest that any passwords any of us use should have at least 1 capital letter, at least 1 lower case, at least 1 number and be 8 characters long, total in length.

Not using proper names or derivatives of your own name or family / pet names will add extra layers to your password uniqueness and make it more hacker resistantant.

Face it, hackers suck, and if they want in your system, they can be persistent enough to break in most anywhere.
