G&F Deer survey coming out soon

Recommended Posts

No one ever kills any nice deer on the early hunts.? The early hunts are a vast waste of time.? All you John Wayne Big Deer Killers need to keep putting in for Kaibab, New Mexico and December coues hunts only and Game and Fish should keep things the way they are....? ?

Nope the other one did, but trust me you guys need to hunt December. December is where it is at :D. Early hunts are for goofballs who don't know what they are doing.

Does anyone know what aprox. date they will release the '06 hunting Regs???

And are they going to have the application dead line in June?

At one of the G&F meetings I went to, they were talking about going to a "split" dead line.... an earlier one for elk and antelope....and a later one for the rest of the hunts. It did not make much sense to me...... and I didn't understand if they were going to make those changes or not??

IF IT AIN'T BROKE DON'T FIX IT!!!! :D

Noticed a little bit of discussion on the fall javelina hunting. If a fall javelina hunt is instituted it will be after the peak breeding season of May, June, July and August. This is from Gerry Day's Book page 35. Data is from looking at the monthly birth rates of piglets from 1968 to 1979 on the 3 BAR by Roosevelt. Yes, javelina do breed year round, but this is the peak breeding season.

What is the opinion of lowering deer hunt success from 20-25% to 15-25%. This would mean getting a deer once out of every 7 years instead of five!

Wouldn't that mean that there would be a lot of little piglets orphaned if there was a hunt 3-5 months after their peak breeding season?

If you know any deer hunters who haven't taken the survey yet, please call them and ask them to take it. It only takes 5 mins or so and it's important to reach as many hunters as possible.

If you haven't taken the survey yet, go to The Arizona Deer Association webiste

As far as the commission meeting goes, here is the date, time and location. Please go to this meeting and express your opinion.

The final recommendations for the fall 2006 big game hunts, along with a proposed schedule for the hunt application process, will be presented to the Arizona Game and Fish Commission for approval at the commission's public meeting on Saturday, April 22 in Phoenix. The meeting begins at 8 a.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn/Phoenix Midtown, 4000 N. Central Ave.

I see they just ignored EVERYTHING we told them and went ahead with the changes to the Whitetail seasons. The only thing they didn't do was shorten the Dec rifle season.

Not only that, they INCREASED the overall number of tags coming off the worst winter in recorded history. AMAZING!

Then they tell me it's not about the money!

Hey, they did protect the lions though!

Desertbull,

The dept is continuing with its recommendations regarding the changes to the WT hunts, but it isn't a done deal yet. The commission has to approve those recommendations. That is what the April 22 meeting is all about. It's important to go and voice your opinion to the commission at the meeting. The commission has the power to accept or deny any or all of the dept's recommendations. If you feel strongly about this stuff, please go to the meeting and speak out.

Amanda,

When does the survey close to responses? Have results been tabulated and analyzed? When will the results become public?

Doug,

We will continue allowing people to take the survey until the end of April. I am working on analyzing the data now and putting together a presentation for the commission for the April 22 meeting. I don't think we are releasing the results until that meeting.
