CouesWhitetail Report post Posted March 6, 2006 Guys, The view results link was taken down after the ADA board decided that the some people might view it as biasing the results of the survey. We don't want the survey to be vulnerable to criticism for that, so we decided it was best to just wait until after the survey is done to show results. .270 Report post Posted March 6, 2006 i took it but i'm kinda irked that the survey is either whitetail or muledeer. i always apply for a unit that is any antlered deer and i hunt it that way. depends on the mood i'm in when i wake up i guess. why wasn't there anything about the any antlered hunts on it? Lark.
CouesWhitetail Report post Posted March 6, 2006 Lark, I don't think they are proposing changes to the any antlered seasons. But I guess we should have thought to allow people to choose any antlered for what they primarily apply for. Amanda

kwp Report post Posted March 7, 2006 I just got an email from the Game and Fish with a link to the survey. Maybe they did listen to your guys' calls.
CouesWhitetail Report post Posted March 7, 2006 The Game and Fish Department does support this survey. They didn't have it up sooner on their website for some technical technical reasons. The survey link is now up on their website and they emailed 44,000 hunters last night with the link to azdeer.org to take the survey. We received about 900 responses overnight! Pretty impressive. But , remember, it's very important to keep spreading the word to your friends about this survey. We need lots of hunters to take this survey and if you feel strongly about the issues, please make sure you tell everyone you know about it and also show up for the April 22 commission meeting. In addition if anyone is in Tucson this Friday, the AGFD commission has added this issue to their agenda. Leonard Ordway will be presenting the results from AGFD public meetings held throughout the state and also he will be discussing this deer survey. The commission isn't going to take action on this item, but will take public comment. So anyone who can go, should go to the meeting this Friday. It will be held at RiverPark Inn, 350 S. Freeway Rd, Tucson. Amanda
Coach Report post Posted March 7, 2006 Amanda, It's pretty clear how those of us active on the various forums have responded, but given that it has now gone out to the entire G&F email distribution list, do you have a sense as to whether the majority of those respondents are for or against the proposed changes? That is, if you are at liberty to discuss the results. Thanks, Jason
Rembrant Report post Posted March 7, 2006 It'll be interesting to see how the survey comes out. You know the Game Dept really wants to stratify all the whitetail hunts. Looks like 90% (or more) of the folks on this site want to keep late rifle hunts only in the central units. That's my first reaction too, but the more I think about it, the more a Nov. hunt in 22, 23, 6A, and other units won't be so bad. If it does happen, it won't be the end of the world. Here are some reasons why: Ifootmatt said, "I got really lucky with a 36C December tag, and it was really dang hard to get a deer. Yea, increase my opportunity to go out and have to work even harder!?" Dude, whitetail hunting in Arizona is always hard, even in December. What do you want a canned hunt? SunDevil says, "I am always very discouraged in the Oct and Nov hunts with all the other people that are out there. It is almost impossible to get away from them." Mr. Devil, If you can't get away from the crowds in an early hunt, then you deserve the quality you didn't work for. SunDevil also says, "My chances of harvesting a buck are slim and a really nice buck non-existant." KGAINES says, "I think they are forgetting that the people that put in for the Dec hunts usually have a high goal, they want a big deer, and it is all or nothing for them, if that same guy has a Nov or Oct tag I would bet that his standards might go down..." Gentlemen, Didn't Reynolds and King kill those giant bucks in Nov and (Oct allegedly) on purpose? Don't knowledgeable Giant Coues killers put in for early hunts because they can find, pattern and kill these toads before they start roaming a little in the pre-rut? Also, isn't December pre-rut and not full blown rut? The rest of the state already has stratified whitetail hunts. How come y'all haven't politicked to get rid of the early hunts that are already there? I ain't trying to change y'all's minds. You already filled out the surveys. I just want to point out that some times when one door closes, another door opens. Early tags are valuable. At least they are to me. I killed my best buck to date in November The Dept is trying to put out a few more tags and you guys don't want 'em. I sure hope I don't see the names in this string complaining about not getting drawn for deer this fall. Mike
DEERSLAM Report post Posted March 8, 2006 I just got an email from the Game and Fish with a link to the survey. Maybe they did listen to your guys' calls. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I got the same email from AZ game and fish asking hunters to take the ADA survey. So they did listen and are getting the survey out to hunters who may not have known the survey existed.
DesertBull Report post Posted March 8, 2006 I think as soon as you answer the first question - Do you apply for Mule Deer or Whitetail? - and you answer Mule Deer, you should not be allowed to answer the questions about the Whitetail hunts. The majority of the tags, and therefore the majority of the deer hunters, are primarily after Mule Deer. Why should they be influencing the whitetail hunts that they admittingly do not apply for? They should obviously be encouraged to give their opinion on the archery hunts, the proposed javelina hunts, etc.
CouesWhitetail Report post Posted March 8, 2006 I tend to agree with you DesertBull. But we all know people who do indeed hunt both species, even if the majority of hunters pick one species over the other. We can sort the results later and look at how whitetail hunters vs mule deer hunters voted. I can't give out results, but I will say (as I have said all along) that you should get as many whitetail hunters as possible to vote!! Amanda
bullwidgeon Report post Posted March 8, 2006 No one ever kills any nice deer on the early hunts. The early hunts are a vast waste of time. All you John Wayne Big Deer Killers need to keep putting in for Kaibab, New Mexico and December coues hunts only and Game and Fish should keep things the way they are.... Bret M. AZP&Y Report post Posted March 8, 2006 Good point Desert Bull. I took the thing thinking it was exclusively going to be about coues/whitetail hunting and proposed changes. I wasn't expecting question 1 to be this: Do you primarily apply first choice to hunt Mule deer or Whitetail deer in the state of Arizona ? Mule Deer Whitetail Deer Then skips question 2 . If you answered ?Whitetail Deer? in question 1, which part of the state do you primarily hunt in? Central or Northern Arizona (units 1-27) Southern Arizona (units 28-37) and continues on to my weapon of choice if I answered Mule Deer only. I think the survey should have been exclusive to coues deer ONLY. The elk survey didn'tgo into COW elk hunting etc. AzP&y Doug I thought John Wayne only hunted Carp?
