KGAINES Report post Posted March 3, 2006 I am trying to remember exactly, but don't they link together a youth ham hunt with reducing the archery season, there is no option three on that question it is either yes or no. I do not want the archery season shortened, and the way they linked the one question isn't right.
kwp Report post Posted March 3, 2006 I totally agree with you on that one KGAINES. I think that a good compromise could be reached to allow for more junior and HAM javelina opportunity but that it doesn't need to be by shortenting the archery deer and archery javelina seasons. missedagain Report post Posted March 3, 2006 If the G&F was so helpful in giving input for the questions on this survey how come I can not find a link to it on their website. You would think that they would want this info. and put a survey link in BOLD BIG LETTERS on their website. The only thing I have against hunting pigs in the fall is, if we kill them in the fall what are we going to hunt in the spring.
SunDevil Report post Posted March 3, 2006 The one question I think they left off the survey was asking a questions going in the opposite direction. Would the serious sportsmen (excluding campers and road hunters) be in favor or reduced opportunity in return for increased success? I am always very discouraged in the Oct and Nov hunts with all the other people that are out there. It is almost impossible to get away from them. If all I wanted was a tag, I could put in for Oct 30B and get drawn every year. My chances of harvesting a buck are very slim and a really nice buck non-existant. Why don't they make the 1 deer per year go through Jan instead of be a calendar year thing. I would be more inticed to spend time in Jan with a bow (if I hadn't drawn a tag or was unsuccessful) if I wouldn't be done for the next year (if I was lucky enough to connect). Of course, reduced opportunity would mean less money and WE ALL KNOW THAT IS WHAT IT IS REALLY ABOUT!!! They can try and white wash it any way the want, but it really all comes down to money. It is the root of all evil. CB
reddog Report post Posted March 3, 2006 Just took mine. As for the fall pig hunt, I am all for it except that I don't like the idea of the overlap with the deer hunts. Reddog
DesertBull Report post Posted March 3, 2006 Why don't they just make a July hunt? They could sell 10,000 tags per unit 100% draw - 0% success CHA-CHIIIIING!
az4life Report post Posted March 3, 2006 Desert Bull, With an idea like that.... Are you lobbying for the next commision seat. chuckle
KGAINES Report post Posted March 3, 2006 I think they are forgetting that the people that put in for the dec. hunts usually have a high goal, they want a big deer, and it is all or nothing for them, if that same guy has a nov. or oct. tag I would bet that his standards might go down, especially if he knows that the archery season is shortened too. DesertBull, is that july hunt any deer, or any antlered deer, because even if it was any deer I think game and fish would lose money, because they would have to buy a fleet of ambulances to ferry the heat stroke victims to the hospitals, but then again they would charge for it. DesertBull Report post Posted March 3, 2006 We could move the July hunt to the first week of May. Any antlered deer. 99% of the deer don't have antlers in May CHA-CHING!!!! ---------------------- 400 people have taken the survey "In general, do you support an increase in tag opportunity even if it means more hunters in the field and a reduction in average hunt success?" Yes - 33 No -
KGAINES Report post Posted March 3, 2006 Don't forget about the fines, if the deer had antlers and it was shot they would probably fall off when the deer hit the ground, oops. The hunter- but officer it had them I swear, The warden- shut up and sign the ticket we gave you this OPPORTUNITY and you blew it.
KGAINES Report post Posted March 3, 2006 Ok, guys the survey is up and live. We will be running the survey until the commission meeting April 22. If you feel you know enough about the proposal to vote, you can go do that. If you want to take more time to learn about it, feel free to do that also. We just need responses by mid-April. Remember, you can only take the survey 1 time. You can go vote anytime by visiting the Arizona Deer Association website Amanda <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Is this link up on other sites as well, and I agree azgfd should have a link. KGAINES Report post Posted March 3, 2006 I called azgfd, I asked for the deer proposal survey, they transferred me to the game branch, I asked the lady on the phone the same question, she tells me to hold and she will check into it, she gets back on the phone and tells me it is an ADA survey and gives me the website info, I then ask her why it isn't on the azgfd site, she says she doesn't know, but that is a very good idea and she is going to reccomend a link, she was very helpful, but I have a feeling it won't go any further, but we can hope. azpackhorse Report post Posted March 6, 2006 What happened to the "view results" link? There was a link that allowed you to view the results of the survey to date, am I missing it?

Just cuz you hunt in Jan. doesn't mean that you have to shoot one.... We each pass up about 10-20 bucks in December & January with a bow. If we see a shooter we take him. If you can kill a great big SOB with a bow in Jan. who cares if you have to sit the whole rest of the year out??? I think that if everyone (except juniors) was focused on only taking mature bucks in all seasons the success rate would already be down. Then they would not have to take good tags away and put more hunters into the woods at crappy times of the year. But you are right ....... it is all about the money. They have to keep gas in those G&F trucks and you know that can't be cheap!
