COUESAZ Report post Posted December 7, 2011 Well at the age of 39 I am being forced into finding a new career. I have been a plumber for the last 17 years. I have done it all from new construction to remodels, and many years in the service department. After the injuries to my arms I can no longer do the work of a plumber. So no I have to find another line of work. Any ideas as to what is out there. I can also get training and schooling through the workers comp and state I guess. But I have no idea as to what I want to do. I always wanted to be in the outdoors for work. Law enforcement of some kind was always a dream but at my age and the situation with my arms I could NEver make it through the acadamy haha. What are some cool jobs that you guys do or know of that someone could get into. We are also not against relocation either. I would love to get out of this city. yotebuster Report post Posted December 7, 2011 Move to ND and drive truck in the oil fields! You'll make 30-40 and hour, you can work 7 on 7 off if you wish and hunt your butt off the rest of the time! Not much for housing in NW ND, where you would be working, but there's a ton of cheap housing about an hour and a half away, so you could work long hours on and commute and have a bunch of time off. Lots of opportunity up there.
COUESAZ Report post Posted December 7, 2011 I love the area Amanda. In fact our area we would love to be is the thatcher and safford area. Close enough to drive or carpool to the mines in the area.

Freeport is hiring. My step-daughter just got on as a surveyor at the old smelter site that is being rehabbed up near Silver City. She had no relevant experience, but they trained her. I keep hearing the Morenci is hiring, too. Get on the F-M website and browse the jobs. Good luck!

BASS Report post Posted December 8, 2011 If I can ask, what happened to your arms?
COUESAZ Report post Posted December 8, 2011 Hey Bass I tore the muscles to begin with. Then about a year after that i tore the ligaments and tendons in them. The put me on permenant disability wich i would stay away from if i were able to. but the Drs said i have reached the end of what medicaly can be done. so i guess you could say its like bad tendonites now. my limitations now are no lifting over 20 pounds and no continued use of of my elbows and forarms. like twiting and gripping. Redman Report post Posted December 8, 2011 I suggest going back to school and look into getting a RN or become a Medical Technologist. Your only 39, in two-three years you could get a very secure job in healthcare. not outdoors, but very flexible schedules and plenty of opportunities. Millhouse Report post Posted December 8, 2011 You could become a teacher (construction or building trades). Not the best time to enter the profession, but with your industry experience you could get certified easily and teach the next generation everything you know. BASS Report post Posted December 8, 2011 Oh wow I can not imagine the pain that must have accompanied that. Perhaps a work from home job? Data entry sometimes allows that. I know I have hunted with people who would bring a laptop and do some work, or upload it through a phone connection.
