bryman1645 Report post Posted December 4, 2011 so i got drawn for 36c whitetail starting today! but unfortunately, i am still in school at NAU in flg until december 15. i was so blessed and amazed to be drawn for this hunt, the sad thing is i cant really scout for it because i have to be up here and take my finals. so my question is: i heard that this unit is very hard to hunt because you cant get close to the mountains due to all the ranchers around them. is this true? if so are there any ranchers around the mountains that will let hunters cross their land to get up-close to the mountains? any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated! thank you so much for reading this and helping bryan. azpackhorse Report post Posted December 4, 2011 First off welcome. I think that you are a week ahead of yourself as far as when your hunt starts and as far as access in 36C, nothing could be further from the truth. Get out there when you can and enjoy yourself. Good luck!
Red Rabbit Report post Posted December 4, 2011 If you have the late December tag which starts Dec 9, the week after Christmas will be best. Still hunt as much as the season as you can though. The nice thing about 36C is that one can get to the base of the mountain but has to hike in from there, which eliminates a road hunter mentality. Consider a bivy camp to reduce in/out hiking time. The access points and the mile posts for the roads are given on the G&F website. http://www.azgfd.gov/h_f/hunting_units_36c.shtml Study hard for finals. firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted December 4, 2011 As a rule of thumb, I don't usually help people too much when their first post is asking for honey holes. But as a fellow Lumberjack, and December tag holder I will offer what little I know. PM me and I will tell you what I have found, while out there working.
