I was out taking pictures and...

Recommended Posts

I went out in the afternoon yesterday to take some photos and to let my youngest shoot his B-b gun. I was surprised when I came across this nice set, 98" with a twelve inch spread.

Well, not quite.

Antlerboy taught me how to put things on a rock to take pictures. LOL!

I think Amanda will post a picture in the find the shed section soon.

dds,

I've always wondered how the spread on sheds are measured? Does it have to do with the angle of the pedicels? Again, great find.

It was actually off this post that inspired me to go out after church today on a shed hunting expedition. 3 years ago this March, I saw the biggest buck (eastern) that I have ever seen, by the same wooded area that I was in today. He was standing about 2 feet from the road. I would guess him to have been in the 140-150 class. I live right in the middle of town, near a city park. It just amazes me that deer like this are so adaptable.

I did find a shed a couple of years old today. In my estimation, probably 120-130 class deer. His eye guard was chewed off as well as his main beam. In '03 I shot a 134 gross WT and this guy is heavier than him. Probably a mainframe 8 (or should I say 3 point?) I actually got an adrenaline rush when I saw those white points sticking up in the air!)-Shiras ;)

Shiras,

Congrats on picking up a shed!

As far as spread goes, there is no way of really knowing what the true measurement was (is). I just go off of the look of the pedicle and brow tine, if present to make an estimation. It helps if you hold it up to another skull or mount.

Hope that clarifies.
