Red Rabbit Report post Posted December 1, 2011 If you don't reload, then the 300WSM. Either will work on deer and elk.
deserthntr Report post Posted December 2, 2011 i am getting a new gun also and did alot of research, for me it was between 6.5x284, 300wsm, and 7wsm. i am going with the 6.5x284.... but between your two i would go with the 7wsm, bullets have better BC than the 30 cals. search for my thread which gun and why.... that has alot of info on the

Coach Report post Posted December 2, 2011 Tough call. I haven't shot the 7MM WSM, but the standard 7MM Win Mag is one of the standard-setting cartridges available. I'm a HUGE fan of the .300 WSM and the .270 WSM and prefer them to the comparable WBY, Ultra-Mag and standard Win and Win Mag offerings. Never had the pleasure to shoot a .7mm WSM, but if I were buying a new rifle today, it would be at the top of my list, just based on how much I love the other two WSMs. If I had to choose, without shooting the 7mm WSM, I would pick the .300 WSM. But that's only because I've been shooting .300 Wby .300 WSM for years. Len at Long Range Hunting, and the "Best fot the West" long range shooters seem to prefer the .7mm platform. Heck, I'll just say, go with the 7MM WSM and tell us how it works out. You might just convince me to buy yet another rifle I have no room in the safe for. In all honesty, after hunting, shooting and reloading for around 3 decades (I'll be 41 in May), the .270 WSM is, so far, the ultimate hunting round for the West. But that's just my opinion, and we all know what those smell like.

rcdinaz Report post Posted December 2, 2011 7MM better ballistics and I am nuetral I have both a 300RUM and a 7mmDakota. If I had to give one up it would be the 300. Or check out the 6.5's as deserthntr suggested, great bullet.
QCcoueshunter Report post Posted December 3, 2011 i have a 7mm wsm i have been shooting for 5 years i just bought a 300 win mag to replace it. I dont reload and dont like the factory ammo selection for the 7 and 300 ammo costs me 10 dollars less a box.
308Nut Report post Posted December 3, 2011 Do you want more horse power or less recoil? Between these two, that is what it really boils down to. Equal bullet weights, the 7mm has better ballistics but the 300 has bigger, heavier higher BC bullets available. With the right loads, the 300 will drift less and hit harder. That said, the 7mm is a great balance between recoil, energy, and drift. For up to elk, either are great. Pick the one that appeals to you the most. Alaska Report post Posted January 26, 2012 Both are great rounds but the US shooting Team and the world record holder uses 7mm WSM. I have both but the. 7mm WSM with that great BC using the 162 A Max or Berger 180gr bullets sure shoots flat. For hunting i use the 168gr Berger and 160gr Fail Safe with H4831SC. Excellent non dangerous game rifle the 7mm WSM.
roninflag Report post Posted January 27, 2012 the gun is more important than the caliber. 30 cal more kicks more and has a wider range. 7mm is more than enough power for anything. the sendero was offered for a while in 300rsaum and 7mmrsaum.
