Viper Report post Posted November 22, 2011 Anybody know what is happening to the pig herds in the Tiger Mine Rd / Tucson Wash area in 37B?! We have hunted there for 10+ years. We took pigs every year for the first 7 years straight, then the last few years, the pigs have been real hard to find. My buddy went scouting down there two weeks ago, for the junior hunt, and saw very little sign. There used to be several herds and a lot of sign all over the area. Four or five years ago, we heard of a dysentery type disease going through the pigs in that area, but never could validate it. Anyone else have the same experience in this area? billrquimby Report post Posted November 23, 2011 Haven't been in that country in at least 20 years, but the Tucson Wash area used to be one of our favorite javelina spots. We never saw large herds, but there always were small family groups of 4-6 animals in a half dozen areas that we knew about. Sorry to hear that something has cut their numbers. For what it's worth, it's been my experience that a disease that causes a wildlife population to drop significantly in a relatively short time typically can be a symptom of overpopulation. Anyone else have the same experience in this area? put out a camera in 1 of the washes for deer and there will be nothing but pigs! haha! seriously put out a bag of sweet feed and hang a camera they'll show up! not saying to hunt over the food but you can get an idea whats hangin out. james Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Now fewer herds with the drought and he said something about disease they were getting and wiping out herds. Hunted in there 2 years ago and located two herds but neither had any piglets but they had 7-9 pigs in the bunch which i think is average. 1 tip .... STAY AWAY FROM THE ROAD. Get off and hike aways in. They are there just hard to pick out and another thing i would suggest is sit on tripods and cover as much country as you can. Been huntin' that way for years. I remember seeing a huge herd several years ago, but not since then. A good indicator of the numbers of pigs in the area is tracks in the washes. This year, very very few. A lot of the big trees in the washes are dying off. It seems to be drought related. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

We got into a decent size herd last year. It's just that we like the Tiger Mine area due to the big muley bucks in there and the possability of getting a crack at them while hunting pigs.
