Pine Donkey Report post Posted November 22, 2011 U of A has a new football coach. Rich Rodrigues was an awsome coach at West Virginia, and a disaster at Michigan. What are your thoughts about him in Tucson?
SDHunter11 Report post Posted November 22, 2011 I am mixed on this one. I like that he runs a zone blocking scheme that should open up our running game and allow Carrey to showcase his skills, but his defense has always been suspect. We need to hire a good d-coordinator. I hope Byrne knows what he is doing. He sure picked a good basketball coach. #1 ranked recruiting class in the nation!
BeardownAZ Report post Posted November 22, 2011 Good hire. Stoops had some flashes of success at UofA and had some good recruiting at times. This guy should be able to match all of that consistently and better. Just how good, who knows! Byrne is finaly getting the school to dump money into the facilities and staff so maybe this is a turning point for the football program to be respectable on a normal basis and not just basketball. mklong40 Report post Posted November 22, 2011 I liked Leach a little better due to the West Coast recruiting ties, as well as the Texas area but Rich Rod's not bad. Look, MI is winning right now with Rich's recruits. Bring in a new D-cord and I think we will be good. Plus, with Scott coming off red shirt for his Sr. yr, he has the mobility to run the wildcat offense. I just hope Rich doesnt put together a few winning seasons, clean his name up after the crap at MI, and bounce to a bigger profile Football program. I could see that real quick. scoutm Report post Posted November 22, 2011 He sure picked a good basketball coach. #1 ranked recruiting class in the nation! For some reason Byrnes gets credit for Miller but it was Livengood hired Miller. It wasn't a very good hiring process but it was Livengood that hired Miller. Rich Rod will do a good job and be gone to a bigger program in less than 5 years.
AzHunt Report post Posted November 22, 2011 I think it will be a good choice, although I also thought Stoops was a good choice. The good thing is that Rich is experienced as a head coach, which Stoops wasn't. I guess it will all boil down to what happens after a couple of years and what his record is against ASU!!!! DesertBull Report post Posted November 22, 2011 DickRod is a great hire for UofA. He never had a chance at UM. Great recruiter. He needs to hire a great Defensive Coordinator though because he is all offense.

BirdDog20 Report post Posted November 23, 2011 Pretty pleased. I don't think RichRod got a completely fair shake at Michigan. Tried to fit a square peg in a round hole as they didn't have the personel to easily convert to his offensive style. While we lose Nick Foles to the NFL draft, red-shirt senior QB Matt Scott should fit perfectly as the triggerman for the zone read / spread option. Solid receiving core. Ka'deem. ... O-line with some seasoning. 4 defensive starters who were injured in the offseason. The cupboard is not completely bare. Keep Kish and Scelfo and hopefully we build on a recruiting class that has actually been pretty decent and surprisingly stuck around during the 2 months the program was in coaching limbo. At least if we go 3-3-5, we may have the personel to support it when you look at the emergence of Bondurant, the return of Adam Hall, and a year of experience for Marquis Flowers. Also I believe the schedule wont be as brutal to start with like this years, so they wont get slammed right away. And can work in the system. Scott is unbelievably fast just wasnt as accurate as Foles. KaDeem Carey is also a huge bright spot. Theres a comment in the Daily Star from Lane Kiffin at USC saying he is not pleased with the hire with knowing Rodriguez' football knowledge. That cant be a bad thing when the opposition isnt happy!
