stanley Report post Posted November 21, 2011 On the weekends that we're not hunting together, my oldest is usually busy with a 'not so common' sport! He is on his high school's Crew team. For those that don't know what the sport of Crew is, it's ROWING! It's a great team sport, with coordination, teamwork, and LOTS of conditioning being mandatory for success! The weekend after our mule deer hunt found us out in Marina Del Rey for the annual Fall Regatta (that's what they call the rowing tournaments....). This was an open event, with teams from all over the country, not just high school teams. There were some high school teams, some college teams (ASU was there), and some 'club' teams. They have various races, from single sculling boats, all the way to 8 man (and/or woman) sweep races. Spent a nice day watching the races, then had some evening fun with a friend in Santa Monica while Erik and his team hung-out together. All in all, a great weekend. Erik competed in a four man boat. The boy has some serious guns and dug-in deep for the 5K race! They ended-up taking second place in a tough field of open competition. Proud of him! Anyway, just thought I would share something quite different than hunting! S. Officials getting the race set-up at sunrise. Awesome flat calm water for rowing that day! Getting lined-up for the race! His boat is on the right...... Erik's boat on the right. Digging in deep! He's second from the right..... Me and the Big Man after his race!
Chef Report post Posted November 21, 2011 That's pretty sweet! Way to go on the second place finish too. Erik will come in handy with the pack outs in the near future I can see!
Non-Typical Solutions Report post Posted November 21, 2011 I don't really care what it is, well, within reason of course, but having kids be involved in something is soooooooooo important. Parental support and committment go a long way in helping our your survive what is out there waiting for them. Thanks for introducing us to a Regatta, I thought that was a dance!!! Congratulations on your success......
