There are a lot of groups that could use some help in finding volunteers to mentor kids. The Arizona Elk Society teams up with the NWTF in April to mentor new hunters on the turkey hunt in Unit 23. AES also has a large camp in Unit 6A for Junior elk hunters and we always have new kids with their parents that need help. Lots of javelina camps, predator camps, deer camps and more. Their are groups like Hunt of a Lifetime that needs mentors for their kids. You can go to the AZGFD website and see about 30 camps that many groups put on every year to introduce kids to hunting and could use some help. Just click on the GET OUTSIDE link on the home page. AZGFD had a new division that help organize groups to introduce kids to hunting.

There are a lot more kids than people realize that are interested in learning about hunting and the outdoors. If we can find the volunteers we could move mountains.

Thanks for all you do.

Steve

As Steve said, there are tons of groups that are looking for volunteers to mentor kids. Just about every conservation group in AZ hosts youth camps and they are always in need of people to help take kids out. In addition there are other groups like Outdoor Experience 4 All and Hunt of a Lifetime that need volunteers to take kids hunting. Sometimes these kids have parents who hunt and sometimes they don't. if you are only interested in helping those whose parents don't hunt, then you can specify that when you contact any of the groups.

here is a link to the AGFD web page that lists the mentored hunting camps being held in AZ....contact any of those groups to help out.

+1 on rthrbhntng and Amanda's posts! Definitely some opportunities out there!

Or you can do what I did yesterday! I don't have my kids this weekend (single dad....) and I had some free time, so I drove down to the 36A/B youth camp that SCI is hosting. I showed-up just before light and it didn't take long for a father/son to come into camp. I offered my help, and 30 minutes later we were out in the hills glassing for a buck together. Didn't end-up finding anything for the kid to shoot, but he and his father definitely appreciated me being there! (or maybe it was the Swaros they appreciated.... ) Either way, it was another fun morning of deer hunting with a kid! ;)

Thanks for your interest Mark! Many on this board have made a difference by volunteering to help kids, and it always leaves a great impression on them!
