WHALE Report post Posted November 16, 2011 Found an area loaded with deer droppings and a little saddle with two trails in it headed to the spot with all the droppings. Would you set up in the saddle or the area with all the droppings? I have always heard saddles are the best place to ambush a whitetail with archery, but got to wondering with the amount of droppings if that would be the best place. azpredator@work Report post Posted November 16, 2011 Not enough info to be sure, but based on what you have stated I would set up on the trails in the saddle. Making sure prior to set up I understood the deer's traveling pattern to properly get into the area undetected and what the wind is most likely going to do throughout the day. If the wind is unpredictable I would set up in a ground blind rather than a tree stand. The large amounts of droppings indicate the does are using that other area for bedding. Sounds like you may have found a good spot for the rut. Put cameras out and remember if the does are there the bucks will be cruising through in January. Good luck - you'll get 'em... bobbyo Report post Posted November 18, 2011 Saddle, if you can tuck a blind in and have good shooting lanes. Can make a mock scrape near where the two trails meet. WHALE Report post Posted November 18, 2011 appreciate the info I have a camera in the saddle now and we will see what happens on the pics. never thought of making a mock scrape but i might have to give it a try. 100% whitetails this January no mulies or at least thats my goal.
