Outdoorsmans Tripods worth the money?

Recommended Posts

When I moved to AZ in 2003 I had no idea what Outdoorsmans meant. All I knew: it was a magical place that sold great tripods that were way out of the budget for a broke college kid. Fast forward 8 years. We are on our deer hunt this year and my uncle's Outdoorsmans tripod comes apart in a spot where it is not built to come apart. I felt bad for my uncle but deep down inside I am thinking "see now you know why I don't spend that kind of money for a tripod, they all break eventually" He limped through our hunt with his busted tripod and we had a great hunt. Last Friday night at dinner he tells me that he went over to the magical place(Outdoorsmans) to buy a replacement part for his tripod. After completely taking apart the tripod, cleaning every piece, dumping out the pound of sand from the legs, and reassembly with the new part there was no charge!!! None at all, zip, zero, nada. The only hassle they gave him was for packing around all the extra weight from the years of sand packed into the legs :) Even my uncle was blown away, after all, the tripod is at least 9-11 years old, never been maintenance and never been left at home either. Yes, Outdoorsmans tripods are worth the money, every hard earned penny. I admit I don't own one yet but I will, soon.

PS. I have a couple nice used tripods for sale ;)

I've been eyeballing them for a while, I have the pistol grip, quick detach and panning attachment on a Cabela's carbon fiber, but it is too short for me to stand and glass with. Your story MAY make me pull the trigger, but I would much rather buy a used one for $250 to $300 than put out $550+.

I have been using one for 8 to 10 years. Good stuff, maybe a little overpriced...I would have to see what else was available before saying it is "worth it".

I have had mine for 8 years and never had an issue--took it to them once because i didn't know how to tear it apart and clean it--they did it for me and replaced a part that was looking worn down. No charge--

I still think you get what you pay for so spend the money once and never look back.

One thing I didn't know until recently is they are manufactured right here in AZ as well. Just a thought.

Had a couple of problems with mine, but they took care of it free of charge... Worth it??????? I don't know. I am really thinking about selling everything that is "Worth it" and starting over with items that cost half the price and do the same, or near the same, thing.

I ordered my Velbon from Amanda ATLEAST 6 years ago. Havent had an ounce of trouble with it... Sent it to Jim White for service and he sent it back as good, if not better than new free of charge.... And it was 1/3rd the cost of a Outdoorsmans!

"Worth it" will always be in the eye of the beholder. However I don't think that anyone can ever dispute that the warranty and service you get from The Outdoorsmans products is top notch. If there is ever the slightest question there is a problem they will make it right... period! A person could look for a long time and never find a company that stands behind their stuff like they do.

Wow I thought this thread was going to go the other direction. I'm glad to see everyone is having great luck with the customer service. Here is my take. I love the pan head, attachmentst etc.. but the legs are just so so. I spent a bunch of money on mine and the old legs were horrible. I had mine upgraded to the new legs and they are great but even that cost me a bunch of money and I went straight to the manufacture. I think their are many legs that are going to work just fine at about a fifth the price. But one thing is for sure, I really like to support a product that has great customer service, so if Outdoorsman's CS are as good as they say or as good as everyone says they are, then I guess they are worth the money. (if you have it) if not get another one.

At 500% profit they should give you excellent customer service.

I would like to know what your total equipment cost is to kill a little deer?

No, I am not an anti and I have hunted and killed many deer but I dont have to spend that kind of money.
