Our Junior Javalina Hunt

Recommended Posts

Well we had a successfull junior pig hunt. This youngster was on his first pig hunt and was it a memorable one. The day before the season I found a lot of pigs in a good huntable spot. So the next morning my brother, Sam and I were in position glassing the ridges around the spring where these pigs were watering. After about two and a half hours of glassing and not finding the pigs we decided to go over the next ridge to see if they were over there. After getting on top of the next ridge above the water my brother decided to go onto one knob and glass, and Sam and I would go to another. Well wouldn't you know that as soon as Sam and I got out of sight from my brother, a group of seven pigs walked right by him at five yards!!! After about 45 minutes we met up with my brother and made a plan on what to do. We decided to get the wind right and circle around towards the spring where the pigs went. We just got started when I heard the pigs coming back up the hill. The wind was right so we got ready and they came over the saddle at forty yards. Sam picked the largest pig and he dropped him with his .22-250. It is a female that field dressed out at 42 lbs. Here are some picks. Thanks for reading.

That's great, it's sure exciting to witness young hunters and their first experiences in the field! It makes me remember all of my first hunting experiences all over. Congrats on a very big pig to Sam and his guides, and thanks for the post and great pics.

That is awsome, I have a 4 year old daughter that I cant wait for "her" first hunt, but I dont want to rush it. I know she will be 10 before I am ready, and definately a teen before I can ever be ready for it.

Tell him congrats on a great pig, and good luck in the future.
