vegasjeep Report post Posted November 7, 2011 I know many here are die hard 36B hunters like myself. I hate seeing tons of trash and tons of crap in general in some of the most remote places. I would like ot organize a clean up for the Jan/Feb time frame of doing a clean up out in the unit. It does not have to be limited to just that unit but i feel it is a great start. From mexican trash to the "do gooders" water gallon drops the trash is everywhere. We could fill dozens of dumpsters full but every little bit helps. I would like to get a good understanding on who would like to participate in a clean up like this. I will be reaching out to a few companies to do a raffle, prizes etc. Of course Amanda will be included in this as well. Jeeps, trucks, utility trailers we can gather all kinds of stuff up to really make a dent in the dirty area we all hunt in..
SWDesertRat Report post Posted November 7, 2011 For a few years running Az Game and Fish as well as Pima County, as well as being 'sponsored' by Tucson Safari Club Int. organized cleanups down there. They usually happened around October/November. The spots were identified by ranchers and WM's. They usually hit the worst areas for trash and had several commercial trash bins filled by the end of the weekend. Not sure what happened to the clean ups as I haven't heard about them in awhile, it was a rewarding effort. The pics below show some of what we did. The ugly bags are 5 feet tall and about 4 in diameter. Found out they were too heavy to pick up if we filled them up. I think it would be worthwhile to get this going again if it hasn't been done or to get the word out again if it is being done. PM me for the contact info of the guys from Game and Fish if you are interested in contacting them to see if this is still going on. -C
gotcoues Report post Posted November 7, 2011 I'm in for a day or maybe a weekend. I'd like to get my family in on this too. I stopped hunting the southern units due to trash and illegals. Really detracts from the outdoors experience in my book. I would like to start hunting down there again in B or C. My son and I were doing some hunting over the weekend in 36a and he was absolutely mystified by all the trash. He just kept saying he didn't understand why any one would do that. He has spent most of his time in 33 and was disgusted by the reality of the border units.
vegasjeep Report post Posted November 7, 2011 Please PM any contact info you ma have. I would love to get this going again. Ill sit down and organize the entire thing with any company, organization, or outfit who wants to participate. I have a bit of experience organizing some huge events so I have an idea of what needs to be done. a good 3 months will be needed to do it right. From there AZ G&F will be a huge help with their contacts.
Millhouse Report post Posted November 8, 2011 Pretty sure they still do the clean-ups....one in the spring and one in the fall...I have been to a couple. I would imagine the hardest part of the planning would be having the right bags (the ones they use are tough) and a dumpster to get the trash out. Again, I am pretty sure they are still doing the clean-ups but I could be wrong.
BirdDog20 Report post Posted November 8, 2011 My dad participated in a cleanup drive in 36A a couple years ago. Great idea. If its on the right weekend, I might be back in town for my grandmother's 104th birthday barring festivities.
