couesman77 Report post Posted November 6, 2011 So this year was my first white tail hunt and lets just say they gave us a run for our money! My fiance put me in for my first hunt even though I was hesatant. Our first morning in unit 27 was rough and needless to say COLD!!! I wasn't prepared for the long walks up and down the rough terrain but I managed. We walked into our first spot and started glassing right a way. After a couple hours of glassing and moving around we only seen people and cows... Yes this was very discouraging but when we were heading back to camp we stopped to glass up another spot and found a little buck. He was moving down into a canyon very quickly and he didn't even give me a chance to get the scope on him. So we went on our way and had plan b ready for that afternoon. Once we got back out and started glassing again we notice it was going to be another unsuccessful trip very quickly. We looked and looked and it just didn't seem real or even possible that we were't finding them. We glassed until it was almost dark and my fiance FINALLY found a small fork which then I decided to pass up on. It would've been a 750+ yd shot plus we only had like 15 mins of light left. I didn't want to shoot and leave him out to spoil so we started moving back to camp, while planning for day two. Day two started off later than the first and we thought it was going to be an unsuccessful day as well but after a few hours of moving around and glassing, at about 8 or 9 that morning we were able to find something worth shooting. He was 1000+ yds and was a good size so I decided to go for it. After 4 shots and no hit he was gone and out of sight and unfortunely that was my fault. We tried going around the mountain to find him but we seen nothing. So here we go again back to square one and back to camp. We started planning again and decided we were going to move to a completely new area for that afternoon and AGAIN UNSUCCESSFUL!!! Day three started off in the new area and we only glassed up one doe, one bull elk, and two persons. So this afternoon we DEFINITELY were going to go to a different spot. We didn't think wasting time trying to find something that wasn't there was smart. But that new spot kicked us in the rear because we only glassed up two does and our lighting was going away too fast. Day four, five, and six we spent back at work, so any chance we could've had was unavailable! Can you say aggravated and discouraged!! Day seven though was my lucky day!!! (I always knew that seven was my lucky number ) My fiance left work that morning and we met up to head back to our first spot. were we found a few deer on the last day of the hunt i took a long 850 yard shot and dropped the buck.dianas buck.bmp
