Red Rabbit Report post Posted November 3, 2011 The Coconino National Forest has selected its Travel Management Plan. Here is a link to the plan, appeal process, and to maps of roads to be open and areas of off-road elk retrieval. http://www.fs.fed.us/r3/coconino/tmr.shtml
4Falls Report post Posted November 3, 2011 Jeez, I really, really hate all this regulation. At least they give a guy 300' feet to get off the road and camp unlike Kiabab/Williams who gives you a whopping 30 feet. Wish there maps were a little more detailed. I know a few of these roads that are not signed that well and one of them that the map says is open has a sign on it saying its closed to vehicular traffic. Of course you can only see that sign when youre on your way back out the road. Anyone know when Tonto's travel management plan is due out? That one should be really interesting. Does anyone know of anyone who's been cited for a violaition yet? I spoke to the Williams office just prior to the archery deer season and he told me they would be getting more proactive on enforcing the new rules this fall. This guy was so excited about the new travel management plan for he Kiabab forest, it actually felt like he was expecting me to thank him personally for saving the forest. coues krazy Report post Posted November 3, 2011 We are loosing our freedom in this country. A little here, a little there. I thought the forest belongs to we the people? How can the goverment tell us where we can go in a national forest? The sad part is we will lay here and take it...
Elkaddict Report post Posted November 3, 2011 Can't offroad to retrieve an elk in 5A and 5B I am all for keeping horn hunters from cutting up the land looking for drops, but at my age packing an elk very far is not in my plans! Period!

coues krazy Report post Posted November 5, 2011 Alot of looks but not many responses. Like I stated in my first post, we as a collective bunch will lay here and take it. Take it until its gone. Until they make us pay anywhere we camp on our land! What can we do ? I understand that alot of this has stemmed from atv abuse, but making people camp 10 yards from a designated road on the kaibab is unreal. Ten yards! I will fight with anyone who will fight with me. It may be a fight we cant win, but I would rather fight all this crap than sit and take it.Ill fight for my kids, and my kids rights to enjoy the national forest as I have done my whole life. Give it ten years guys and it will be gone. Unless you like camping in a fee area so they can protect our forest, we better act! Times are a changing, and its up to us to pull through for our kids and grandkids.
coues krazy Report post Posted November 5, 2011 I have to add one more thing. I am not against quads or atvs at all. Its the morrons that cant respect the laws that have put us in this situation. How many times have you been in a place that was restricted to foot only traffic, only to have some jerk come riding along on his atv. At least two or three times a year for me. Yep I call them in, but nothing ever comes of it. I dont know, I just feel most people dont love these woods like I do. I am not talking about people on this site or any other hunting site, just people in general. Sorry for the rant guys it just hurts to see whats becoming of our and I mean our forests. 4Falls Report post Posted November 5, 2011 They keep just pushing us further and further into one spot. The ultimate goal is to keep recreational users of the forest lands completely. Its all a part of their myoptic view of preservation. None of this means anything anyway it only changes the the actions of a few. Back in the 80's they closed all the roads into what is now the mazatzal wilderness, now theres more quad roads into there then you can shake a stick at. Look at whats happening in Fossil Creek? When APS had a presence down there things were much cleaner and better. Now its a bacterial playground, mostly due in part to the earth loving hippies who now frequent the area. So now theirs a constant presence of FS cops chasing every kid with a fishing pole.
gearsnagger Report post Posted November 5, 2011 This is just another example of how the NFS does business - Use the generals public's destructive destructive behavior to implement it's own agenda of closing off as much area as possible! If you are one of those wimpy @holes that cram a quad seat up their butt and call it hunting then you deserve to be cited and prosecuted..... I think a few booby traps on the illegal quad trails would let the quad wimps know it ain’t just their forest… Nothing a few strands of piano wire , pittffalls and well placed cholla dead falls wouldn’t cure! I also think a hunting license suspension would be in order for those few that do get prosecuted! Confiscation of the quad until all restitution is achieved! I hate quads – I run them over with my rock crawler Jeep every chance I get! QUAD RIDERS $UCK!
