Late Season gmu29

Recommended Posts

Got the Nov. 25-Dec 1st hunt in 29. I have never hunted the late season in the Chiri's. I assume it will still be too warm to expect much rut activity. Should I concern myself with attractant scents, rattling, or any other "rut hunt" paraphenalia? I've taken 2 trips down to scout and have a couple ideas of where I need to be. Anybody have experience with the late season in 29?

i wouldnt count on too much rut activity if any at all for that hunt. depending on the weather it could be real cold. i had that hunt last year and it was in the low teens for a low temp opening weekend..... could be snow too.

itll be interesting with hunting and the fire. im heading in to some country that burned this weekend with a buddy. hope to see some animals in the newly opened up and glassable country.

good luck to ya.

I for one am willing to try all the tricks I can throw at them... As we say in our camp...It can't hurt.

Thats not the late season... Late season starts Dec 9th...

BUT, that is a great tag. I have had it several times in the past and had a lot of luck on it.

I have seen some pre rut activity during this hunt. Mostly it just depends year to year so who knows. I wouldn't waste your time on rattling or certain scents. Just get high and glass and hopefully with the cooler temps you should see more deer moving for longer periods. Good luck

We hunted there in Dec a few years back. Woke up opening day to a fresh blanket of snow! It was a cold miserable hunt. The coffee was froze in the perkcolator within an hour and a half of turning off the stove. We did see some good bucks and should have had 2 but my cousin was having trouble shooting in the cold weather!! lol

Check out the Horseshoe Canyon area on the south east side of the Chiricahua's. Thats where we saw the most deer. Take your .22 lots and lots of kudamundi running around. Good Luck
