Those bandits are the scum of scum. It is one thing to cross the border in search of a better life but to prey on those people becuase of their vulnerability is as low as it gets. The drug runners didn't even carry guns until they started getting robbed and shot up by these bandits. I was hunting in that area on 10/22. All I know is if anyone comes near me wearing a ski mask while I am hunting in my country it is bound to get ugly fast. Nothing against border patrol but I bet you could take about 10 hunters from this site and put them up on some of the peaks in the Bartolos behind some 15s and we would have those dudes found pretty quick.

Casey,

The last thing that I want to do is get down on Border Patrol. I am very greatful for what you guys do and I tell agents that whenever I see them. I am always hurt when I hear that one of your agents has gone down. I know you guys are under-staffed and could use a lot more agents out there. I have quite a few friends that work for border patrol. I almost went to work for Border Patrol. I went through the whole application process and was offered the Nogales Station but decided to stick to what I had gone to school for. I am looking for more of an education here than to to be critical. In all my time hunting near the border (which is a lot) I have seen a hand full of agents on foot or horse back out in the field and have only ever seen one up on a hill glassing while I have seen about 9 million driving up and down the roads. I have never seen illegals while driving but have glassed up quite a few while out in the field including quite a few that were "hiding" for the day. I have also walked up on quite a few of their lay up spots. I know I am not trained in catching illegals, bandits, drug runners, etc. but my question is, why does border patrol not use more of the techniques that we use to find coues deer?

Brian

Reading something like this really upsets me. God forbid I run into one of these groups while I'm down there because it probably wont be good for anyone. Brian I understand what your saying about BP. However its difficult to be everywhere all the time while being understaffed. In my opinion this unit's illegal activity has gone down a lot in the past few years. Just my two cents coming from working for a LE department that is short staffed.

I have had the fun of almost running head on into a group of 7 of these banditos 2 years ago, not very far from where this incident happened. It was on a scouting trip with my cousin and luckily I spotted a moving red bandanna about a half a mile ahead through the trees. We stopped and scoped them for some time. Most were carrying AK's and after doing an inventory of ammo and the three pistols we had in the truck we decided to pull back. We were able to share the location of the bandits with BP about an hour later and they were not surprised, stating that many of the trails in that portion of the range see more of this kind of activity due to the location and that the roads road conditions that limit the amount of BP patrols. When he called in the spotting he stated he would probably be the one heading back that direction but since it was only an hour or so til sundown that a drone would be used first.

The BP is great I’ve seen them on horseback, running K9's through old house's, helicopters, drones, quads. heck they try to be everywhere but the fact of the matter is there isn’t enough of them to go around . So keep yourself safe and keep you fellow hunters & BP informed.

I have yet to run into a Border Patrol Agent who has not been friendly. All have been super great to work with, and every time I have called in sightings of either Immigrants or Narcos, those guys are right there and ready to bust the brush to get them. For years, I used to always ask the same question... why don't they develop a team of guys who specialize in glassing. I finally saw this in Unit 35A last year. I saw two border patrol agents on this hill, in more of an olive drab color clothing glassing toward the border about a mile out from the border.

From the looks of his optics, he had all the bells and whistles. Good Tripod, 15X's, attached to a side by side plate that also housed what appeared to be the 60 power swarovski spotting scope. They had patches on their clothes to identify who they were. But, even with the Olive Drab clothes, they still stuck out pretty well. It would be great to have a few of them down in Sasabe because this crap is getting old. The statistics say they are apprehending more illegals than ever, but I must have some kind of Magnet attached to me, I just can't seem to get away from them.
