naturegirl Report post Posted October 30, 2011 My birthday is this week. I mentioned to hubby I would like new high end binos. I have a pair of Nikon trailblazers 8x42 which are great for heavy forest hunting but id like something that is a lot better for long distance mountain desert hunting. im not a fan of spotting scopes. I wear my binos at all times when im out and about outdoors even quail hunting in rain, snow, dust, etc. Price isnt a big priority but there's no sense paying for a name if there's something else out there comparable for less $$. I have used Swarovskis once and they were quite a bit better then my trailblazers. Well more than quite a bit. Im also wanting a new red label from santa so I guess I don't want to ask for too much ...lol Anyone have any advice, thoughts, suggestions, etc?
couesdiehard Report post Posted October 30, 2011 The top two best hunting glass makers are Leica & Swarovski. Zeiss makes great glass but nothing for this type off hunting. There are several second tier makers also whose top models are near the quality of Leica & Swarovski. Minox and Vortex come to mind. There ayer numerous posts in this forum on this subject optics. Some of the best glassers in the country hang out on this forum so read up on what they recommend. They have tried just about everything. Lee

Red Rabbit Report post Posted October 31, 2011 Another consideration for top tier level 15x binos would be the Leica 10+15x50 Duovids. If your eyes are more closely spaced, you may find the Duovids or Vortex Kaibabs more friendly than the Swaro 15x.
bonecollector Report post Posted October 31, 2011 On my hunt this week is the first time I have used 15's and I tell you what they make a huge difference. I have the Kaibabs
mattnduke Report post Posted October 31, 2011 Drove myself crazy with the optics choice game a few months ago. Settled on the Kaibabs and couldn't be happier.
SirRoyal Report post Posted October 31, 2011 I have seen guys that are well heeled with the top of the line binos that are really useless to them , they dont know how to use them. Ive seen others that had lesser quality binos but knew how to use them! Now if you get someone that has the best and knows how to use them watch out he is deadly scary what he can find. So buy the very best you can afford and learn how to use them!!! Patience is your best friend when you glass.
