Jeff Welker Report post Posted October 30, 2011 I'm looking for a fixed power (6.0) scope for a rifle I'm putting together. I've been looking at the Leupold FX-3 6x42; however, I don't want to make a purchase decision until I've evaluated other options. Any recommendations or comments are sincerely appreciated. Thanks. Arizona Griz Report post Posted October 30, 2011 I have used a Weaver 6 power scope on my .270 for the last 20 years. If I was in the market I would look at a variable scope though.
SO I HUNT Report post Posted October 30, 2011 I have 6x leupold m8 on a 243 love it and also 4.5 x 14-3x leupold bc on 7mm and also a 3x12 Monarch bc on my 270 wsm and love the vari. scope as well. It comes down to what your main goal is, shooting longer distances go with the vari. powers and at least up to 12 power. If you are shooting out to say 350 yards than the 6 power is a good choice. Good luck in your quest.....
Mike S Report post Posted November 13, 2011 Both the 6x36 and 6x42 Leupolds are great scopes. One thing to keep in mind about the 6x42 is it has a short mounting tube length that could be a problem if you are putting it on a long action. I have the 6x36 on my custom Mauser .257 Roberts for that reason. Mike
