Ad-Hunter Report post Posted October 28, 2011 Well not much of a story to post. This was the only 3 point deer that I saw all season. Saw a bunch of little deer and was willing to go with tag soup and let them grow up a bit. The one rough part of this hunt was the day I killed. So here are those details Woke up at 2:30 in the morning and left the house at 3:00. 3:45 had the brother-in law drop my Father-in law and I off for a 6 mile hike. 5:15 2.5 mile in and we where at the first glassing spot, wind was cranking and it was a little cold. 6:05 or right at first light glassed up a good black bear about a mile away, decided to move a little down the hill and get out of the wind. 6:45 at a new glassing spot out of the wind, there about 10 min and glass up 4 deer at a half mile away, can tell that 2 of them are shooters for the second to last day of the season. Way the opition on if we both go or just one of us goes for the 1/2 mile, decide I would go and father-in law would stay. 7:10 get down and find the deer at 380 yards, tell the father in law to get down to my postion as fast as he could and we could both try and get shots, 7:25 tell the father in law to hurry they are about to ridge out. He tell me Don't wait on me Shoot one. So I get a quick range on them 407 dail up the turret to 400 lay down of my pack and just wait for the deer to stop walking. 7:30 or so Deer finally stops walking my guess now is 440 yard, tell myself to hold top of his shoulder and let fly. See the deer go rolling down the hill about three times in the scope, said to my self quick get behind the Bino's and fallow that other buck. Watch the other buck ridge out just about the time the father in law get to me at about 550 yard. 8:00 or so get to the hill side where I shot the deer, get tho bush that he was under and start looking, no blood, start combing the hillside back and forth still nothing, finally find him 150 yards down the hill in a reveen still ALIVE what the heck i ask my self, about that time he jumps up and take off only shot i had was in the back of the head on the run at 50 yards DEER DOWN. First shot just grazed his back and barrely broke it he could have gone a long ways. Any way get hime quartered up and start the pack out 3 mile at 11:00 get to where the Brother in law was picking us up at 1:00. Long day but worth it that is the second buck I have taken out of there and the third buck my family has taken out of there one 92" and one 71" two point. He not a gaint but he is meat in the freezer. He scores right at 82" Forgot to tell you saw another bear that came out of the same draw the deer was in and got a picture of him at about 450 yards anthoer good bear. So yes 2 bears in one day no tag and the unit was closed anyway. Sorry for the long story but this is the first long one I have posted. Enjoy the Pictures.
