range finders and record books

Recommended Posts

a thread on the bear board got be to thinking. some poor misinformed antihunter/hunter said you can't enter anything taken with hounds in the books. we all know that to be a falacy. but i have a question about range finders. from what i understand, if you use anything electronic to aid you to take an animal, it is disqualified from the record books. pope and young won't even allow lighted nocks on arrows. you aren't supposed to use radios or electronic calls. but what about range finders? or maybe a cell phone or gps? but range finders is the one that really interests me. i would guess that if the truth was known, a lot of animals that are in the books, shouldn't be, because of radios. seems everyone has em. i know you can always say ya shut it off and then used "hand signals", but i kinda doubt that happens a lot. anyway, someone enlighten me. what is ok and what is not. and remember, laws and record book rules are 2 different things. all this stuff is legal. Don't know about the other books, but SCI and Rowland Ward have no rules against taking game while using radios, rangefinders or GPS.
