any o' you flatlanders have a good surefire summer cold cure? one that don't involve gettin' drunk or goin' to the dr anyway? man, i've had one for almost a week now and it ain't lettin' up. i ain't been around casey so i know it ain't swine flue. if any o' you other dudes on this site had blowed as much snot out as i have, your heads woulda collapsed by now. i sneezed goin' so hard down the road it blew that rear slider open on my crewcad and it made me fart so hard my head hit the roof o' the cab, drove my stetson down over my eyes and i ran through a crosswalk at a gradeschool at go home time. it's getting dangerous and i need a cure. besides, we need to have a good discussion on health issues. C'mon Lark! You KNOW there is no cure for the comon cold, right???? Try Cold-eez, Emergen-C, and/or vitamen C!! LOT'S of "C"!!! Other than that, of course just quit complaining an tough it out!

 

On a serious note though, if the gunk is yellow/green, then you ought to talk to your friendly M.D. (If there is such a thing.... ) If you've got a sinus or bronchial infection, you're going to want to get a Z-pack or some other kind of antibiotic to knock it down! Green and/or yellow! Go see the fellow!

Do you think youmight have allergies? This is a bad time of year for me. If i dont take anti-allergy medicine i get all stuffed up, then get a sinus infection. Sounds like what you might have. Go to your pharmacy and get the strongest decongestant/antihistamine you can buy. Something like claritin-D. Dont know if it will help but you can find out or less than $10 and no dr. The only stuff that works well is in the pharmacy and you have to show ID to get it, but nothing else will work as well.

so far da bull is the only one makin' any sense. what does a onion do? i bet if i did that after a couple days you'd tell me april fools or somethin'. no green. never had allergies this time o' year before. drunk enough emergen c to float a dead hog. and sneezin' like crazy. when i get what i know is an infection i head to the dr. i've had pneumonia enough times that it really messed up my lungs and i never wanna get it again. when i was in nova scotia we all kept getting colds. mainly bacause it is wet and cold all the time. so i started taking emergen c and it seemed like i was ok after that and didn't have anymore problems. and i eat enough chilis everday that i'm getting lotsa good ol' vitamin c. i never had a cold hang on like this. c'mon, somebody hasta have a cure. ain't nobody got an ol indian or mexican cure? Lark.

If youve had it this long, not too sure if anything you can take will kick it or not any quicker than havin it run its course. whenever i feel a cold coming on i always try to take zinc gluconate. its in the vitaman section. i always take one every meal as long as i feel the cold and then usually for a day or two after i feel better. seems to work well (i know seems is a weak word) but thats just me. doesnt do too well for my wife.

 

if it is a sinus infection that can drag you down pretty good for a bit. make you run a low grade fever and feel like garbage. get an aggressive antiobiotic to help kick it quick from your dr.

 

otherwise just treat the symptoms til it goes away. tylenol and ibuprofen help to do that purty well.

ZICAM does the trick for me. My wife and 2 girls have had colds for the last week and I just keep taking ZICAM, it works!

I've been taking vitamin C, zicam, drinking OJ, Theraflu in the morning, mucinex D (the good stuff 1200 mg something behind the counter)

I'm not feeling great but every bit helps. I thought I would have kicked mine by now. Had it a week. Everyone I talk to said this years flu bug is a 2 week course

"Chlorpheniramine maleate" they are allergy pills. Wal-mart and Costco sells it. Costco's is dirt cheap, its at the pharmacy counter, you gotta ask for it. This stuff is worth its weight in gold. I take that and sudafed to get rid of the sinus headaches. There has been lotsa times that stuff has helped me hunt instead layed up in camp. If it is in your chest get some Guaifenesin, its sudafed for your chest, it breaks all that gunk up. Also, the guy you brought on your lope hunt told me a good trick too. In the shower snort up some hot water. It will clear your sinuses. I also watched a guy out in the hills snort a little Copenhagen to do the same thing, it sure worked. I was laughing but it got all the snot outa his head.

Mucenex-d works for me to get the crud out. Its that gufiesion whatever stuff. I also use the zicam nasal swabs and it cuts the duration down by half. Good ole dayquil also helps keep the symptoms down and managable. I have heard that honey and lemon juice help with the sore throat if you have that.

As a fellow RV'er the goto is Los Dos Molinos. Not all chilies are created equal. You have to look for the Hatch "Hots" and "Super hots". It sounds like you are way ready to move up from those common "Big Jim" chilies. I'd go with a relleno with seeds, side o' pasole or menudo. At leaset the full belly will distract you from the cold symptoms.
