COOSEFAN Report post Posted October 14, 2011 Howdy folks, I initially had other plans to hunt in Texas but that fell through so I ran down and bought a leftover 35A nov. 4th tag! I'm excited as heck to still be able to get this tag this late and am surprised there were that many leftover still? I have been out of the loop recently but I know there were some serious fires down there. Does anyone know how much of 35A burned or where the fires were located? I remember hearing about the Huachucas burning but never heard if there were any fires near the Canelo's or down by the lake? I typically hunt areas on all sides of the unit so I'm sure I can find a place that isn't burned...well, at least I hope! Thanks for any input! JIM>
OpticNerd Report post Posted October 14, 2011 East side of the mountain is where most of the burn occurred. Fire started in the Montezuma monument area and burnt all the way to the top ridge of car canyon majority if not all of this fire was on the east side of the Huachucas. If I remember right there where a few other fires around Parker lake but I don't think they were all that bad but don't know for sure on those ones though. Hunting6 Report post Posted October 14, 2011 No burning occurred in the Canelos Most of the burn appears to be on the South East side of the Huachucas here is a link that gives you more information. http://www.inciweb.org/incident/2324/ another link: http://ghost32.hubpages.com/hub/A-Look-at-Damage-from-the-Monument-Fire-June-25-2011 Here are a couple of maps as well. they are not too clear to see, but if you open the links you can see a little clearer.
