Junior Hunt Big Buck

Recommended Posts

First want to thank a fellow Coueswhitetail member for sharing info and pointing us in the right direction! Thanks Dug!

My two sons 15yr old Austin and 16yr old BJ had drawn tags. The hunt began with snow flurries and very cold! We still managed to spot a nice fork and a 3x3, but with no Shots fired! Opening day ended with my Youngest son Austin missing a nice Fork! On Saturday my 16 year old BJ missed the same forkhorn twice, and began to get a bit discouraged! Then on Sunday morning my 16 yr old son decided to hunt with a friend Steve and his son who had a tag and had tagged out on a small buck Saturday evening! Sunday morning began uneventful, My 16 yr old BJ filled me in on his morning hunt and how he had missed a spike at a mere 80 yards! He was sounding very discouraged now! I shared my misses and success stories with him, hoping to encourage him! Anyhow to make a long story short, My Son and My friend and awesome hunting buddy Steve, decided to return to the area where he missed the spike and try and get him! Well off a long lonely old logging road, my son spotted a buck at about 2:20pm walking across a clearing that was only about 150 yards wide and had thick pines on each side. My son tried to get a good rest, as Steve told him calm down and take your time! My Son said he was trying to control buck fever, but couldn't stop his cross hairs from moving up and down so he tried to time his shot when his crosshairs were on the sweet spot! "Boom" The buck drops in his tracks!!! He made a 168 yard shot! On a beautiful 4x4! While all this is going on I'm driving back to camp with my 15 year old son Austin, doing about 60 down the highway, when I recieved a Text from Steve with a Photo of my Son and his Buck, I about drove off the road with excitement!!! I asked my Son later if he was glad he missed the smaller bucks and he said Yes!!! The hunt ended Monday evening with my Austin missing a Nice 3x3 at about 200 yards!

Great Buck! Thanks for sharing I hope it helps other hunters young and old remember to not get discouraged and to keep after it!

Hey Dad...Careful with that texting and Driving eh. BBD Photos can be dangerous when viewed in motion. once I was texted one as I was on my way out of the office and walked right into the door and ended up dislocating a finger joint..

That's awesome. Even though I like whitetails, some day I hope to get a nice muley like that for sure. Lord knows I've been trying.
