I am a fan of Arizona athletics, both U of A and ASU! Heck, I even follow the Lumberjacks. No doubt, in the head to head game I am cheering for the Wildcats, but to me the ideal game would be a National Championship between U of A and ASU. I want both programs to be successful on the national level.

With that said, both schools have a lot of work to do and neither should be content. ASU is having a good year this year, and I am thrilled, but they are not at the nation powerhouse level yet. This week's game will tell a lot and I hope they come out with the W. Over the past three years they have been mediocre at best, and sitting home during the bowl season. I hope the administration, fans, and alumni are not content with where they are right now, because they have not created the things they need to be a lasting power house. Ericson has done a nice job of cleaning up the mess left by Dirk Kutter. Kutter was an offinsive thinker who let the defense dwindle. Ericson has cleaned that up, but I don't think we will get much more out of him, and I don't think he will be able to elevate the Devels to a tier one level. I am a bit worried about next year with the amount of key players who are seniors. This is where the U of A was last year, and look at where they are now.

In Tucson there is no two ways about it, the football team sucks. I was at the NAU game and felt NAU was the better team in the first half. Mike Stoops did a nice job of taking the team from where they were to where they are now, but I don't think he can take them much further, and Burns made a good, and bold call by making the mid-season move.

There are a lot people in Tucson who complain about Burns because of his ASU background. These fools are hippocrates; not a one of them is saying the same thing about Mike Candrea!

The AD's and upper administration at both schools need to work their respective supporters and doners to raise the funds (private funds, not tax payer dollars) to hire and retain tier one coaches and staff, and to make sure they have tier one facilities. Until then, all we have is a small-time pissing match about who won the last and who won the most U of A vs. ASU games. We need to set the bar much higher!

Byrnes was able to keep Sean Miller and we now have the best recruiting class in college basketball in the nation for 2012, and he has been doing alot of digging for money for the football program to enhance facilities and such and as well as setting up some pre game traditional activities most good football programs have to attract recruits. ASU grad or not, he is the most aggressive AD UofA has had and thats what they need right now. Personally I never thought Dennis Erickson was that great a fit at ASU. I still dont but at least his work is finally showing some. I always thought Danny White would be largely successful and the fickle fan base in Tempe would love it and be more consistent with support. Both these schools have sold themselves short, but that is nothing new to Arizona sports in general.

I've said it before, I'll say it again. As a graduate from UofA, the Wildcats will always have a place in my heart. That said, I'll always cheer for any Arizona team over CO, UT, NM, CA, WA, OR, etc..

UofA needs major work in football and basketball, but the same could be said of ASU and NAU.

Have some sense of state-pride and back all Arizona teams. When the big show-down happens, sure pick your favorite, but the stupid "UofA sucks and ASU sucks" mentality really reminds me of Jr. High.

It's an old, worn-out, pathetic mindset usually perpetuated by people who never graduated from any higher education in AZ, and it just smells like youre 5AM butt-cheese. Time to grow up IMO.

How's that for grown up and edumacated???? LOL.

All I'm saying is the whole rivalry thing has a place, but some people take it way too far. That's all.

I have to say, how does UofA need major work in basketball  ?? They arent as much of a powerhouse as they once where, but Sean Miller is getting it back slowly but surely. A #2 draft pick in the NBA, second year, close lose to eventual champion UCONN in the Elite Eight, blowout Duke in the Sweetsixteen. Thats good for UA especially considering Lute Olsons back and forth the 2 years before he retired left the cupboard pretty bare to rebuild with. They wont be as good this year as they have no depth right now on the bench, but its going to be good in a few years like it use to be when the #1 recruiting class gets set in and matures. Football is a different story. I have to agree with you completely on that one B) .
