I did it again

Recommended Posts

Yesterday I realized that 8 months without another chance to hunt is a loooong time. So about noon I grabbed my bow and ditched out of work. I made the drive down to 37B to an area where I had seen pigs and had missed a 35 yard shot a couple weeks ago. It took several hours to find them but at about 5:30 I stumbled into them (or they stumbled into me).

I had two pigs at 20 yards broadside and was drawn back on them but one was directly behind the other so I waited for a clear shot. They both turned away from me and gave me the moon, I continued to hold. The pig on the right turned just enough to give me a hard angle on a quartering away shot and I released.

The pig jumped at the sound and the arrow missed along its side. Needless to say I was in a hurry going down there and forgot my call so I could only watch helplessly as they ran away.

So its tag soup again and all I can think about is how many times I have read or heard of someone missing a slam dunk shot and thought "how can you miss that? I could hit that every time." Well I guess I was wrong. B)

Oh well, the same old mantra, theres always next year.

Grizz,

I read your post a couple of weeks ago and was thinkin' if you were gonna head back down?? Well you did and flung some carbon , it may be tough now, but the experience of getting close to pigs will get you in there for a kill shot (.

It's funny that your Mantra is our Mantra??? B)

My buddy screwed up in putting in for our Archery only Jan hunt, and we got left-over tags for the HAM hunt (area 33) in a couple of weeks. Hopefully that will be a blessing and I'll get another shot and a chance for "redemption" from last season (aka the mantra)....

Thanks for sharing. For about 90.00 you can get the Javelina 3D target from Delta. That target is a bit smaller than most realize with stick and string in hand.

Respectfully,

AzP&Y

"missing a slam dunk shot and thought "how can you miss that? I could hit that every time"

i went into my deer hunt thinking the same way... i would hear people bust out 3,4,5,6 shots and i would say to my dad, man they suck! i would have dropped that buck on the first shot! well, low and behold when my chance came to drop a buck in his track ( 200 yards, standin still broadside!) i CHOKED! i,eventually ( 9 shots, and 51 yards later to be exact) had my 3rd coues deer down!

i blame it on the gun, the fact that putting a buck in the crosshairs made the gun mis-fire, but in all reality, just like in your case, it was probably 100% shooter error!

like it has been said many times, thats why it is called hunting and not shooting!

Sorry to hear of your miss. I think a lot of us have been there!

Casey

I think you meant to say "that is why they call it hunting, not killing." :)
