jeffcros Report post Posted October 2, 2011 So my friend John and I get off work, throw some gear in the truck and head up for a weekend of bear hunting. This is the third time this year we have done this so we are getting pretty good at it. By time we get to the hunting area it is just to late. We end up varmit calling one spot but nothing came in. Next morning we are up before light get a little grub, make sure I have batteries for foxpro and we are off. We make 3 stands Sat morning and nothing is coming in but we find alot of fresh sign so we are hopefull. About 9 we are headed back to the truck and we are just walking real quiet when we come up on the water that we had sat and called first thing in the morning. I catch a little movement by the water, it looks like a cow which seemed normal there are alot of cattle in the area. Then he turned his head and there was a whopper of a bear, I raised up my 7mm-08 and put one in the boiler room. He took off out of there in a flash, I put two more into him before he crashed about 50 yards away. We were amazed at how huge this guy was. I remembered him though from a trail cam picture I got in September. Im no bear expert but i think this guy was 450 and 500 pounds. We had to use a couple of tow straps and the truck to pull him out of the canyon he was in so that we could wok on him. After the 4 hours of messing with my bear we kept talking about what we were going to do for the evening hunt. Since we found that the bears were eating acorns we figured varmit calling was a long shot at best we decided to sit another water that we had seen fresh sign on. So we parked about a 1/2 mile away, sneak in to our spot. Wind is perfect, woods are queit, and we get settled in. After the busy morning my eyes decide to shut for a quick nap. we weren't there 10 minutes and I hear John wisper BEAR, then BOOM. I see this bear rolling head over tail down the hill. He fell to Johns 338 Edge that he built this year. It was about a 75 yard shot. We look at each other in disbelief, It was an amazing day! We took abunch of pictures, rolled up camp and headed home to get these bears to the taxidermist. Both were boars and Johns was about 200 lbs.
