DCMHunter Report post Posted January 24, 2006 I am looking for some help. My son (12) and Daughter (10) have drawn for javelina in unit 28 general hunt. I would like to find some good areas to take them hunting in. I have been down acouple of times and have not found any fresh sign in the areas listed on the G&F site. If you can help me I would appritiate it a hole lot. This is my sons second hunt and my daughters first. I know the area by Duncan a little bit and can hunt either the flats or foothills. We have horses for traveling and packing. So any help whould be nice. DCM
BASS Report post Posted January 24, 2006 I can't help very much for your particular unit, but from what I have been seeing in the last two weeks, you need to find some water. The three herds I have found have either been in the water, or on their way to the water. Both at around 11 o'clock or so. Good luck!
creed_az_88 Report post Posted January 24, 2006 I don't know much about the area but i do know that i haven't been seeing any javelina in the hills. They've all been in the flats, along with most of the mule deer. If you can catch them in the flats the chances are you'll be able to follow them most of the day. I would try walking around a water hole until you find some tracks and then try and follow them. good luck creed

couesarcher Report post Posted January 24, 2006 I was in 37b this last weekend, down around the 96 ranch. I found a water hole off the beaten path that was just littered with Javelina tracks. Not much deer sign around the water hole. I hunted the area pretty hard saturday, glassed until my eyes were ready to fall out. Only saw 2 mule deer bucks, both fork horns and a coyote. muskrat Report post Posted January 25, 2006 I have seen one herd in 33/37B this year. Unfortunately, they saw me first, and all I saw was little black butts going down over the hill. That was down by San Manuel. I haven't seen a thing in any of my regular 37B spots - Freeman Rd, 96 Ranch Rd, off of 79 north of Florence, Brady wash, Tom Mix wash, Willow Springs Rd.... been a tough year for this amateur
bowcrazy Report post Posted January 25, 2006 I don't know the unit that youre jr hunters have been drawn for but i would have also say to look for water. I have been hunting 37-b and have seen two herds both of which were staying close to water, just havn't been able to get close enough for a shot. the wind has been bad, so they have winded me on three different tries to get a shot. DCMHunter Report post Posted January 26, 2006 Thanks everyone for the help. From what it sounds like is that they are more down in the flats and not as much in the foot hills. Daniel, I will be sending you a PM thanks DCM
bullwidgeon Report post Posted January 26, 2006 I saw lots of hog sign down on the river last week while busting up quackers. You should try the hills adjacent to the river bottom anywhere from Geronimo to New Mexico. Good luck. Bret M.
