Looking for a good dove recipe...

Hi. I'm kind of new to hunting doves and was curious if anybody would be willing to share a good recipe for doves. I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I thought it might be helpful since dove season has begun. I prepared some dove breasts last night by marinating them in italian dressing for about 2 hrs., wrapping them in bacon, skewering them and cooking them on the grill like a kabob. Just wondering how others cook their dove meat. Thanks.

I freeze them until I am making ground meat jerky. I have had dove a few ways that were not to bad, but I have never had really good dove. They do stretch the jerky nicely.

the game and fish website looks like they have a couple of good recipes.

i marinate in soy sauce & teryaki sauce with a few garlic cloves.

but take the breast plate out first.

then scewer them up with your favorite veggies and grill em up.

or take the breast plate out and cut the tops off of jalepenos and take the seads out. fill with cream cheese.

wrap the breast around the jalepeno and wrap a piece of bacon around the breast and place a tooth pick too hold it.

then grill it up.

Wrap them in bacon, with a jalapeno slice somewhere int he mix. Grill. Possibly throw in some marinade before it goes ont he grill and good to go!

take one filleted dove breast and mix with at least 15 pounds of ground pork, beef, or venison. When serving, make sure you don't the portion containing the dove.

throw in a crock pot - and 1 bottle honey bbq- and 20 oz coke -mixed- / or enough out a big bottle- to cover the breasts - slow cook for couple hrs -

 

take out of crock pot - place on cookie sheet - cover/brush with some bbq - place under low - BROILER setting -10 minutes -

 

 

serve with rice or noodles or veggys - you'll thank me latter - enjoy

 

i do the same recipe when i have saved a huge pile of filleted breasts - or ribs or chicken wings

Thanks to all of those who have replied. I will have to try the slice of jalepeno next time I grill them (that sounds tasty). In response to Hunterjohnny, they actually turned out pretty good. Here's the recipe for the marinade I used:

 

Cover dove meat with zesty italian dressing

Sprinkle with salt, pepper, and ground cloves

Add some melted butter and marinate for 3 hrs. in the fridge.

 

I wrapped them with bacon and added chunks of bell pepper and onion in between the dove meat and grilled them kabob style. They were pretty good, but I was just curious what other techniques are out there.

Here's a great recipe for dove, quail, rabbit and squirrel. Mix salt, pepper an flour. Roll birds in the flour, coat all sides. Saute in olive oil until brown on all sides, about 20 minutes. Remove birds from pan, but save drippings. Place birds in a glass baking dish. Then add the following to the saute pan and slowly mix with drippings - can of cream of mushroom soup, one can of milk and one can of beer. Scrape drippings as the liquids are being heated. Then pour liquid over the birds. Cover and bake on 350 for about 45 minutes to an hour. This is best served with brown or wild rice and fresh Italian bread for dipping in the sauce. You will love this. I also make chicken this way once in a while. Enjoy.

I use the jalepeno and cream cheese recipe as well. It is a crowd pleaser. For something different try using artichoke hearts instead of the jalepeno.

I can't wait to try out some of these new recipes. It's going to be a good year for dove. The best I've seen in many moons. :)

Just do what I do, and choke them down out of a warped sense of responsibility.

I dont like them, but I eat them because I feel like I owe it to them since I blasted them in the face with a shotgun.

I have prepared and eaten dove many ways some good, most not so good.

Best way I found to appreciate a bunch of dove is to make a Pâté out of them.

Google a recepe and serve with saltine crackers, everyone will enjoy
