.270 Report post Posted September 3, 2011 allen, go down to checker or someplace like that, even home depot carries em, get you a tail light kit and install it. very simple. wires are color coded. not hard to install at all. if you have hard to find light assemblies, just get the wires. the plug-in to your truck is marked as to where the correct wires go in order for them to work properly. it's easy. i know i'm a lot smmarter than anybody else, but i've done it a buncha times. if you're not sure where the problem is just pull new wires and put in new bulbs and make sure everything is grounded. you can do iiiiiiit. Lark, you are way smarter than everyone............Allen.....480-258-3726 Unless there is access from the rear like many of the newer autos, bulb changes are done by removing the lenses. That said, it's likely not a bulb problem. It's pretty rare for none of the lights to work unless there is a ground or fuse problem somewhere. So are ANY of the lights working -- i.e. turn signals, brake or tail lights? If not and if possible, have you tried plugging the trailer into a different vehicle? If you can, try it; that will eliminate a possible problem in your truck, such as a blown fuses or bad ground to the trailer plug.
BML Report post Posted September 4, 2011 More than likely it's a wire that's worn through the insulation somewhere and is grounding out, causing a blown fuse. Easiest way to check is to look at your fuses. Find the one that's bad and then replace it. Turn the lights on. If it blows again, you have a wire grounding out. .270 Report post Posted September 4, 2011 if i could crawl around i'd do it. this new knee is still really sore. whenever i build a trailer i always put the wires in a conduit. most of the time with trailer lights, it's a grounding problem. good luck.
