Looks like we will be breaking the record for most consecutive days without rain. First the game and fish, now mother nature. Arizonas wildlife is in trouble. :P

It is going to be a rough fire season if we dont' get some rain soon.. Last year was great so we had alot of vegitation growth.... If is is really dry we are going to have alot of fuel just ripe for the burning..

We're just as dry here in NM. What makes it harder to swallow is I just returned from a couple weeks in Seattle and they're closing in on the record for consecutive days of rain. I wish I could put the weather in my pocket and bring some back here to the SW. I was out cutting wood in country that should be impassible due to the snow. It's gonna be interesting to see the antler growth next year.

It happens every time, the year after El Nino. I was really hoping to have just an average rainfall winter to back up last years great fawn crop. I expect a lot of those young deer to die this summer unless we have a good early monsoon. There is very little for the deer to eat right now, how bad will it be when it is 105 every day?

Well,

At least the game department funds and works numerous projects that help water our critters and get them through tough times as the next 6 months. Thank Goodness for that. I guess it's time for all of us to begin to channel our energy into a proactive and POSITIVE effort to help support our wildlife, the game department officials and the game department commission.

Funny you should mention that. I was in 22 this weekend, and found a water catch that was in some awsome country. Problem was, there was no water in or around it because game and fish havent maintained it. It was not vandalized, just not taken care of.This place has some serious potential if there was water. Looked like it had been 10 years or so since this place held water.

I think that there are a lot of us that know of a trick tank where we like to hunt that may need some upkeep or maintenance. We could determine what needs fixing, buy the parts and go back on a scouting trip and fix the drinker. No need waiting on G&F, each of us can choose to keep a drinker operable. I have one in unit 9 that I have worked on every year, but who knows when the next archery elk tag will come. Good Karma.

I would say that drinking water is not what is going to be hurting the wildlife as much as lack of food and cover for new borns. The coyotes will kill many more fawns and calfs this year with little or no ground cover.

Good reply by both of you. Trick Tanks are usually easy to repair, sometimes

just a good old fashioned clean out, or 5 to 10 dollars out of your pocket, and a honey hole is working again. It seems like nowadays, its up to us, not gnf or forest circus. To many college kids that don't know much of anything, and don't spend the time in the woods. Forest Service has cut back on employees, and alot of the old timers have or are retired. And kill them stinkin Yotes.

it will rain again. it always does. what was the name o' the marshall trimble book? "it always rains after a dry spell". i know it ain't a popular way o' lookin' at things and i'd really prefer some rain, in fact a lotta rain, but drought is weather just like rain and snow and wind. and it's all part o' the cycle o' things. we live in a desert. even the high mountains are just islands surrounded by desert. it's just another one o' mother natures ways to deal with things. my ol' man has lived here a long time. he said he's never seen it so dry. 30 years from now you'll be able to look at the saguaros and still see the skinny place in em where this dry spell happened. i hope it rains sooner than later, but i'm afraid we're in for a bad one. it's gonna take a lotta above average precipitation years to recover from this one, and it don't look they're are any o' them comin' very soon. tough time to be wildlife for sure. Lark.

Maybe we here at CW.com can adopt a tank or two and have one or two "fix'er upper" days a year.

Any Ideas?
