unit 27 bowhunt next weekend

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone. I hope everyone that bowhunts is haveing a great time so far this late season, keep sitting those desert tanks for big bucks. I'll be heading most likely to alpine to stay for 3 days and i was hopeing someone might know a good place where the deer are rutting hard. I really wanna tag a nice buck. I was thinking about going down by the blue river where coues and mule deer run amuck. Does anyone know if good numbers of deer are at the upper elevations? Any kind of tips or advice will help me. Mainly I'm looking for something i can still hunt slowly, maybe a water tank to work around.

I hunted 27 last friday and saturday. We didnt hunt the blue or up by Alpine much, although we did see deer quite a few deer from strayhorse on down to the lower country. We mainly stayed in the lower country down by Juan Miller and Eagle Creek. We only seen one herd of coues and the buck that was in the bunch appeared to be ruttin pretty good. My buddy barely missed that coues which was a decent 3x3. We seen quite a bit of muley activity on saturday but from what we seen they were not ruttin too hard. We did see a herd or two of mulies that were hittin the water or close to it. Hopefully this info was somewhat helpful to you. I will be in 27 again on Friday, i'll most likely be in a '93 4x4 red extended cab chevy, if you see me pull me over and talk. Good luck.

Hey have2hunt,

Did you see any Javelina? I have a tag for Javelina & plan on heading down in a couple weeks. What is the country like around Juan Miller & Eagle creek? I have never been there. Any help would be appreciated.

Hey tracker I spent 4 days this year in unit 27 in areas where i have killed 4 different pigs in the past and i didnt ever glass one up, and they both include upper eagle creek and juan miller. In previous years i would find them several times a day but not this year.

Hey 300 wsm,

That does not sound good for me. What is the country like around Juan Miller or Upper Eagle Creek? How is it to hunt? Can you get around? Or is big canyon country? Are there any camping spots? Somewhere that I could camp with horses? Seems like alot of questions I know but any help will be appreciated. Thanks

Hey Tracker the area around juan miller has lots of canyons and lots of prickly pear. The area around upper eagle has lots of canyons and rolling hills. Both areas have lots of camping areas. You can get around on the roads just fine although their are some rough side roads. As for your Horses I cant think of any coralls unless you bring your own. These areas are also very popular with other hunters in some years.

Both areas have tanks and springs but a lot of the tanks are dry and a lot of the springs arent running because of how dry it is. If you can find a good tank with pig sign around it I would sit it .

Thank you Craig, I will give that a try if I can find some fresh sign. I am looking foreward to heading that way. What is forest service road 475 like? Have you been on It?

Between the December and Janurary bow hunt I have spent a total of about 5 days in 27. We seen a lot of deer and a few good bucks but never seen much sign of pig, although we did see a herd of about 6 pigs cross the road. We followed where the pigs went and called a few of them back in to about 10 yds. The area we seen those pigs I seen a decent amount of sign, it looked like the pigs had been staying in there for a while. I also had a pig hunt in 27 about 3 years ago and hunted pretty hard in both Juan Miller and Eagle Creek and never seen a single pig the whole time. If you want you can email me and I would be glad to give you the whereabouts of them pigs.
