DZ1 Report post Posted August 30, 2011 I went and sat my blind opening morning and nothing but two doe came by so I decided to get out and go back to the ranger. On my way out about a half mile down the road a two point stepped out and gave me an 18 yard shot and I passed him up. I took about 10 steps and a real small 3 point is broadside at 54 yards I think about it and think about and again I let him go. Get back on the ranger head back to camp to get a bite to eat drive up to the trailer get off and there is another 2 point 40 yards away again I pass. I'm thinking man I hope I don't regret passing up on theses small bucks! Friday evening my buddy text me and says he hit a 2 point so we all go to where he is at and its pretty much dark now. We go to where he hit the deer and find the arrow and its a complete pass threw easy find right? We search for 3 hours and cant find the deer we follow the blood until it ends we all tell each other were not giving up. I decide to check the bottom of the canyon and there he is ok its 12:00 A.M. now and we get back to the trailer and skin him and its 2:00 A.M. The morning hunt on Saturday is shot now we all wake up late and hunt the evening see a few deer no shots. Sunday is here and gone same thing no shots and Im starting to think should I have passed on those deer? Monday morning finally get close but no shot again we hunt all day now the doubt is really setting in as we are walking out I see a buck that looks decent I put a stock on the deer my buddy is to my left and gets a range of 50 yards on him I draw back and the buck deides to turn. Im at full draw for what seems like forever finally he quarters to me and I release its a good hit but we back out and go back to camp and get our other two friends. We come back and find the arrow covered in blood and 30 yards later the buck is laying there. He is not a monster but a trophy in my books and the time spent with friends on this hunt was priceless!!!
